Looks like Elvis fans have started to give up on these singles.I know I have. Some of the fans were only getting these singles because they were a limited edition.Although I would have still got them if they were limited or not.And now with the fan club saying you can order the singles from them whats the point in going to any music shop and trying to get the singles on a monday morning.I think Elvis will struggle to get another no 1 now.

This drop is really not surprising. Taking Dorset/Somerset as a typical example, only 2 (Yes TWO) copies made it to Woolworths in Yeovil, Dorchester & Weymouth, Also Asda Yeovil only got two copies. The staff are still not aware they can order more copies. The manageress of Woolworths in Dorchester triumphantly showed me a memo, which basically said that their suppliers EUK were dependant upon Sony/BMG to deliver to them & this was not happening, & therefore nothing to do with them. The woman running their record dept then told me she had "more important things to do with her time".. I told her not to be rude.. More sinister though was the last paragraph, saying that Woolwoths were not going to give chart placings to any previous singles in this series. I pointed this out & she snatched it away, saying I was "not meant to see that" .. Anyone working for Woolworths able to get hold of this memo & put it on this site? this is clearly not right...

"Surrender" is the way I feel when I hear it.. like surrendering totally to that voice. Absolutely beautiful. He had gone to pains to practice opera by listening over and over to Mario Lanza records in Germany. had Charlie take singing lessons there and then rehearse with him. that's why the big difference in his vocal range pre and post the Army. Just like with "It's Now or Never." He had sent a request to America when he was in Germany for someone to compose lyrics to. "O Solo Mio," which then became the popular version "It's Now or Never." I remember writing him back then asking him to record "O Sole Mio", and then "It's Now or Never" came out. I never heard back from him, but when I heard the song, I felt he did it for me....TCB'n with TLC, Bet

2months ago we had 18no.1s,and no real hope that would rise. We`re now sitting on 21,by end of this campaign The King will have sold 400,000-500,000 singles in 1year, well, 4months. Look at sales figures at the end of the year and see how many people top that figure, charity records aside. Not many-if any! Unfortunately,we`ll have to accept we won`t get any more, for whatever reason. I don`t understand when people pick out certain singles for No.1 hope,as whichever single it is we can still only buy the copies available, and we obviously won`t have the same amount on the shelves as the other 1month,or even 1year wonders! Being wrong though would make me amazingly happy! by the way my 6month old boy was born, via caesarian, with Elvis playing in operating theatre...true story!!!

Everybody has their favourite number one Elvis single and every week we hold our collective breath to see if the next re-issue will make it. I'd love to know which number one most fans would love to see returned to the top of the charts. For me it was It's Now Or Never. That has been my all time favourite song since I was a kid and I can't begin to tell you the thrill of knowing that it was the top selling single in the UK. Just brilliant. I feel bad for fans of Fool Such as I and Surrender missing out on the same experience? How does everybody else feel? Which former number one do you feel most passionate about?

I agree with Pacer1965...we have lost all hope with these singles in that we are just unable to get them at the record stores. It is so disheartening when you rush down on Monday only to be told that they are all gone....then like last Friday i went back and managed to get Are you lonesome tonight...only just over a week late!!!

I have to be honest and say i've completely lost interest now. I gave it 200% in the first weeks or so, but was left empty handed on several occasions. Thats only part of the reason though - no video footage, the use of an impersonater, zero radio play (apart from every Sunday if its Number 1), constant ridicule by DJs and the younger generation, zero interest by EPE again, the list of endless. Perhaps Im talking rubbish and nobody else agrees, but what Id love to see, is 28,000 NEW fans buying these records and not the same old faces i.e me, you and every hardcore Elvis nut buying them, which is the case, though admittedly from the reasons i have already listed, its make it very difficult for this to happen.

Yes, Bernard there is absoloutely no doubt that Elvis' record sales and chart positions are being manipulated. Referring back to the 'payola' scandal some years ago - I thought there now was some sort of industry regulation in force to prevent this sort of thing happening? If anyone is aware of who the regulators are please let us know. The reverberations from this new 'Elvisgate' will go on for a long time to come.

Don't give up guys... i think the elvisfans are greater than any other fans of any artist in the world. We still have more than 10 singles to be released.. don't give up! As i read the news about the new singles being re released some months ago, i wouldn't have thought about getting even 1 single back to the top of the charts, and now we have the possibility to do that. It's maybe the last chance to pay some tribute to our king ;-) Isn't it awful to see people waiting in front of their local record stores to get their ELVIS Singles... it's like 40 years ago when a new single was announced to be released...

So much has been said already about these singles, and it is difficult to say something new. In April, we will have two new box sets to add to our collections, having filled any gaps by the new copies being produced or the fan club offer. We also will have added at least three numbers ones to Elvis' tally and probably eighteen top five hits. No one can doubt that these box sets are beautiful items, especially the CD version, and will be a great addition to our collections. Does it really matter whether there are 20,000, 30,000 or even 40,0000 copies in existance? We should be pleased that the demand is there for such large numbers, not moaning about how much ours sets will be devalued by these additional copies. I would not want to deny any Elvis fan the opportunity of owning one of these sets. As the 1965 Elvis album said, "Elvis For Everyone". Regarding the comment about the singles being bought by people new to Elvis, rather than existing fans, I think this is a lot to ask. New fans are usually tempted by compilation CD's, such as the two recent BMG sets. These are the way forward into making non-fans fans. Regarding the comment of which song I would hope to be number one, I would plump for "Way Down". I can remember buying the single on the day of release in 1977, playing it on my return home, and thinking that he was still The King. Very soon after, he was gone, and the record was number one. I took no pleasure in it's chart position, my focus was on nothing other than the fact that we had lost Elvis. If it were to get to number one again, it would take away some of the pain I associate with the record. As far as Woolworths not being able to cope with the Elvis singles, this comes as nothing of a surprise to me. In terms of being the main high street record retailer, they are and have always been an absolute joke. At least HMV and Virgin give the impression that they care about their customers.

Look everyone you cant give up now, Cause like mtm sayse "Devil in Disguise" is on its way. I really want to see it go to number one. Just get out there try harder dont be beaten! I know its probably a lost cause but if you all give up then the last half of the Elvis singles are going to struggle. Do you want El to end this bombardment like a wet squid? , come on stiff upper lip and get out there!
John4126 wrote on February 18, 2005
Jim Semple - i agree with you. I ask myself would i have bought these singles if they weren't limited edition. No. Why? Because i have the songs countless of times. Do i care if El never has another number one hit ever again? No. He is the King - period. Nothing left to prove. Now that these singles are being mass produced and are no longer 'limited edition' i have sold my box and 8 singles for a tidy profit enabling me to buy several bootlegs that ive been after for some time. Thats not to say i disrespect anyone who wants these singles or who wants to see The King top of the charts.

The numbered singles are a collectors limited edition. No way will I throw in the towel on the most exciting period of fandom for over 25 years! I think anyone who does runs the risk of wishing they hadn't in years to come. I'm hoping for lots of airplay for "The Wonder Of You" and for "Way Down". The record I would most like to see get to No 1, would be "Hound Dog"- the best rock song ever!! If only it had got to No1 in 56!

like i said from the start its fixed none of the shops want elvis at no1 he takes up to much shelf space with his extensive catalogue. Is it the shops is it the record labels or is it BMG?

Well guys I tried to get Surrender again today and guess what they did not have it again. They did not even have any of the previous singles either. So I tried again and I failed.Oh well I will just have to order them from the fan club wont I ?
RobIrish wrote on February 19, 2005
Jim Semple again i can say your talking rubbish !! if you only wanted these singles as a future profit then that only makes you a stock dealer. I want these singles cause i love the way they have been produced, they look so good with the covers and the simulated record effect and i love the vinyl cause they represent the originals. nothing to do with the re selling value. i wouldent sell mine for any amount.

Pacer i do feel bad for you mate.. you have tryed but keep trying , where the hell do u live ? in deepest north devon lol?!

Pacer, Surrender is available to order on the HMV website. Although the message states that all copies will be un-numbered, so far all mine that have been delivered by them have been numbered copies. For anyone who doesn't have a credit card, maybe it's worth phoning HMV and asking if you can send a cheque? It's worked for my sister before.
RobIrish wrote on February 19, 2005
Has anyone seen ranger on and wheres data gone ? I wonder are they getting their copies still ?
shakyelvis wrote on February 19, 2005
I would say that ALLC is easily ready to go back to #1. It sold huge numbers in 2002, and would have remained in pole position had Sony not terminated pressing it just so GG got to #1. Where is he now, eh?
shakyelvis wrote on February 19, 2005
Forgot to say: any foreign fans out there you should be able to buy the singles on line, which should increase sales in UK, and give E more #1s. Thanks

I know it is some time off before it is released but like it or loath it The Wonder Of You could be the monster hit it was when it first came out . I think BMG should go to town on this one. They owe the fans plenty after their dismal distribution cock-up's!

Jim Semple I've completely lost interest in what you have to say. If there was an award for the most negative and ungrateful Elvis fan then surely you would win it hands down. I bet you'd be happier if these 18 singles had never been released in the first place!
