Acetate Replicas

November 01, 2006 | Music
Two of Elvis' acetate records will be reissued on vinyl in November 2006. The 1953 and 1954 acetates of “My Happiness / That’s When Your Heartaches Begin” and “It Wouldn’t Be The Same Without You / I’ll Never Stand In Your Way”, were recorded by Elvis at Sun before before his first commercial recording. Both acetates have been re-pressed in a limited quantity of 300.

Wow this is the coolest thing, why only 300. the has the potential to clean the pockets of all the collectors around the world seeing that there could only have be a hand full of the originals. print more you'll empty all the wallets and credit cards from Russia to Florida and africa to the north pole. andy then the Bids on ebay will got through the roof, you need to Colonel back to hawk this promotion he'd be kind and get only 50 percent

Seems a little bizarre that only 300 will be pressed. This is the stuff collectors want. Maybe the powers to be are concentrating to much on comercial tack and i am refering to number plates and elvis singing ducks to name a couple. One can only imagine what these things will sell for on ebay.If there is a list put me down for two (one for myself and one for ebay) ...... I think a great opportunity missed

This is a fun idea but I agree: why make it that much of a rare pressing? It's not like it's the original. Make enough to satisfy the initial demand of the hard-core fans who would want it, otherwise, it comes off as a gimmick to make a buck. On the other hand, maybe 300 copies is about right? How many would want one? I'm not even sure...

I think it depends on what the price is. I bought "That's All Right" as a 10 inch single when it was issued. The price, as I recall, was a bit on the high side, but I 'had to have it'. We already have the music, so it will be just another slab of vinyl to file away. Picture sleeves and eps are what I like most, but these copies of acetates are very intriguing (I have several acetates as well, but none by Elvis). Why not make it a boxed set of acetates? Include the "Fool, Fool, Fool" acetate...for example. That would be cool.

Anyone know exactly WHO is re-issuing these? Is it "Sun" or RCA, or a "European" source!?
