Way Down Reaches #2

April 24, 2005 | Music
Elvis latest re-issue single "Way Down" entered the official UK singles chart at #2 and remains 2nd to charity for one more week as Tony Christie remains the UK #1 single. With this result Elvis scores his 76th UK Top 10 Hit, and his 16th Top 5 hit in as many weeks.

Elvis' last single release of this campaign is 'A Little Less Conversation' and is out in the shops on Monday 25th. This single can do better with young fans, so this gives hope for the gap Elvis leaves in the download section. And there is a decent video for this single so who knows, Elvis may show up on a televisionscreen near you.

This weeks Official Top 5 singles:

01. (is This The Way To) Amarillo - Tony Christie Ft Peter Kay
02. Way Down - Elvis Presley
03. I Like The Way - Bodyrockers
04. Switch - Will Smith
05. Somewhere Else - Razorlight

34. The Wonder Of You
47. Crying In The Chapel
68. Devil In Disguise

Hmmm... guess I'll complete my box next week, maybe it will help. I surely hope that the worst single with Elvis' name on it won't reach #1 again :-)

Conversation, not the best yet also not the worst in my opinion. Desperate for one more #1 but i`ll be completely surprised if it gets there. Why? Well people talk about it being `modern` and appealing to today`s `youth` yet after collecting my reserved copy today there are NONE on general display! There have been none of ANY of the `current` single on the shelves. It says above that it may sell downloads where others haven`t-how are `downloaders` going to know it`s available?! TCB

I think the Chart Positions for this campaign have been outstanding, so well done. What does concern me, looking at the sales figures, is that without doubt, its the same 23-26,000 people buying the records every week. Now I appreciate that the releases were limited, but surely we can attract some others to buying these ? Me personally, would go down the ALLC, Rubberneckin road, because its the only way to win in new fans, as these campaign figures show that.

Although ALLC is not one of my favourites (or least favourites for that matter) I do think that this one has a better chance of selling as it appeals more to younger people who heard it in adverts not so long ago. I have to agree with Jim Semple, the modern remix route is definitely the way to go. This current campaign has proved that original Elvis singles being re-released do not get the publicity they deserve, especially when all of the singles that they are up against are also accompanied by the relevant artist promoting their single on every tv and radio program for 2 weeks. At least if there is a re-mix use on some kind of advertising campaign, Elvis might get the publicity he deserves, and indeed the publicity this campaign should have had.

Unerringly canny how we always score pretty much the same amount of sales week after week. Also that song is nowhere near tailing off yet-why? I believe Friday night we were behind about 27000 to 240000 then get murdered again on a Saturday. Think we have to acknowledge that The King will never get the promotion we feel he deserves, unless it`s for, i don`t know...CHARITY! TCB
