Just another prime example of the $15.00 1 new song CD. I think I'll just get the new FORT BAXTER JR.

From what I read on another board, like the phony "unreleased" track found on "Love, Elvis" from a few years ago (actually already available on RCA/BMG's FTD label), this so-called unreleased" track has in fact already been officially issued, no matter what they say. What nonsense...The whole release stinks. There's no reason the can't keep either the original Yule albums in print or at least the better '90s sets, upgraded. Boycott this turkey, please, obsessive collectors.

When i saw the cd,i thought surely it has been released on the collectors label, but what about fans who might pick up this cdmbecause they assume that like the vocer says that the track is unreleased, this is false advertising, the track is on a cd not known to the casual buyer but thats just it, they know that the die hard fan will want all takes, but at same time these fans will most likely know of the collectors cd's and already have it,so id like a reason for the lies, and of course this release is not needed just another example of the 1 step forward 2 steps back approach of this label!

Sorry for the typos, and ill add that the take of for the good times used on 6363 sunset doesnt sound right,it has hiss, however on the love elvis cd they manage to get it right pathertic job indeed!

I'll not buy it but It will be nice to see it on the shelves along with the Elvis Calenders. All those youngsters gawking at the young Elvis....I've seen them.......... and kinda know what they are thinking :-)

Boycott this release?? My aren't some Elvis fans getting preachy. I'll decide for myself. Actually, I wasn't going to buy this. But now I just might. My little contribution to BMG's profitable bottom line. Just to make sure the compilations keep flowing.

Pot calling the kettle black about being "preachy" I think. I am apalled at the misinformation lately. On the description, we are told that these tracks are for the first time on one disc, which has been pointed out on a previous post as untrue. Now we have this unreleased alternate take along with another on the previous genre CD's (R&B, Movies, Live etc). I hope SonyBMG are not going down a dark road.

does anyone notice anything odd about this photo cover? for those of you who were around in 1960 this photo was taken after Elvis discharge from the Army in March of 1960, thus it was not a true Christmas photo and does not belong on an album cover, the tree was left up for return home. So misinformation of the "unreleased song" and maybe its a closer to easter photo.......as the old timers die off all kinds of bull will pulled over the newbees eyes. watch the hair styles, the weight changes they are all the tell tale signs of the year, also what he has on is the same as the press conference he gave after his discharge in the office behind graceland. by the way it is a cool place to see.

Is this pic not from dec. 25... damn I'm not having this then, In fact I'll boycott this mother. C'mon guys, maybe there's somebody out there who just dig the music.
MauriceColgan wrote on October 08, 2006
Yes I was around in 1960 (I was 18) and know the photo is misleading. I also love the music first and foremost. Those attempting to police Elvis's legacy on Elvis message boards are often quite funny:-) The vast majority of people buying the CD will not have a clue about our misgivings. Not that I have many about Elvis's beautiful recordings being sold at Christmas..in any form!
Mystery Rider wrote on October 08, 2006
to Dan and Maurice. but if your a fan than you already have this stuff, the more they re-produce this stuff the more money they make, give us something NEW to enjoy except the same repeated music and photos year after year after year. by they way just because its a new disc dosent make it any better than the 500 christmas additions.
see see rider wrote on October 08, 2006
Oh for crying' out loud people..What difference does it make about the photo being an actual Christmas photo or not..or when it was taken. The songs themselves wasn't actually recorded on Christmas or even in December. In fact, the songs on "Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas" album were all recorded in May of '71..in the middle of Summer..a whole seven month's before Christmas. They had to put a Tree up in the studio for Elvis to get him in the mood to record the song's. Case in point...same thing..sheesh.
Dixieland Rock wrote on October 08, 2006
Good point see see rider. I think people forget or don't realize the original Elvis Christmas Album cover photo was from the Jailhouse Rock photo sessions. And it didn't affect the success of that album.
Dixieland Rock wrote on October 08, 2006
Also the picture of Elvis from the Camden version cover of "Elvis Christmas Album" was from a scene from the film "Speedway". And that album was a major success. What's the difference of when the photo was taken? That's getting too petty. Since I have the original Christmas Albums and the "If Everyday Was Like Christmas" and "Easter Special", I'll pass on this release.

I cant wait for the 2007 Christrmas compliation cd. Gee I wonder what songs will be on it?
Mystery Rider wrote on October 09, 2006
Im just trying to get my point across that BMG is using people as suckers and giving us used material over and over, its like that old saying back in the 70's about Richard Nixon, would you buy a used car from that man.
delnis wrote on October 09, 2006
BMG . . . FTD . . . EPE . . . they're all hucksters. Enough with the rehashed compilations, misinformation, and chronologically incorrect photos . . . the marketers are counting on the fanatics, new and old, to buy this stuff. The quality is no longer there, and people are buying into it . . . just too many obsessive fans who'll buy ANYTHING Elvis.
delnis wrote on October 09, 2006
And may I add that the image is only further cheapened by selling some special edition CD at . . . Walmart. While I am a fan of unreleased material, and I think that many of the alternate takes were better than the masters, it really is rotten of BMG to release a CD with ONE unreleased take. Can you say: "Being taken to the cleaners"?
Greg Nolan wrote on October 09, 2006
Delnis, you're right about "just too many obsessive fans who'll buy ANYTHING Elvis." That sums it up for me. Jerry Nodak wrote:"Boycott this release?? My aren't some Elvis fans getting preachy. I'll decide for myself. Actually, I wasn't going to buy this. But now I just might. My little contribution to BMG's profitable bottom line. Just to make sure the compilations keep flowing." With all due respect and you know we agree a lot but , Jerry, this attitude is part of the very problem. What's wrong with a call for a boycott? I know it will fall on deaf ears, but let's at least shame fans who buy anything that has Elvis on the cover. "Preachy"? With good reason. The catalog is a total joke. Let's face it: Elvis has zero prestige out there these days for *way* too many people, and pumping out one after another compilation is part of the problem. BMG/Sony is doing fine, thank you, and doesn't need our token purchases (quite the opposite) and this sort of mindless fandom is indeed part of the problem.
JerryNodak wrote on October 09, 2006
delnis: I admit to being old (56), but I'm not a fanatic. Fanatics must have everything. Ex: I don't own a single FTD soundboard. Nor a single bootleg.
Dan The Man wrote on October 09, 2006
Personally I'm not buying everything that has E on it, I buy what i want and that is to be considered a privilege in our world. Boycott is something they do in fanatic countries. I don't have a problem with Elvis cd's on the shelf with something on that i already have, maybe they aren't aimed for me but for some naive ignorant newbe who havent looked to many Elvis messageboards.
MauriceColgan wrote on October 09, 2006
Yes I too had the Original "Elvis' Christmas Album" bought it in 1957. A different cover than the American cover:-) I rarely buy the new releases. My collection is large enough. I just like to see people have the opportunity to buy Elvis's beautiful Christmas music. Do you guys know we original Elvis fans in Europe had to wait till the age of video to see the Ed Sullivan etc TV coverage of Elvis in 1956!! Everything comes to those who wait:-)
Devon wrote on October 09, 2006
I have seen all the C.Ds in walmart, wont waste my money on these i have all the songs already!!!!
delnis wrote on October 09, 2006
Greg Nolan: Right on! . . . . . . . Jerry Nodak: Well, I would admit the "old" part as well, and clearly, as anyone can see by my posts here, I'm not a fanatic, either. Been a fan from the early 60s when I first heard his music, have seen every movie countless times, and was able to see him in concert many times between '70 and '77. I bought the original music, and have made maybe half a dozen purchases (audio/video) during the past 30 years. I bought "EWH" when it was first released, but I won't buy any of the "tell-all" books that are out there floating around in Userville. The entire Elvis image and business have, IMHO, been cheapened beyond repair. Fortunately, I don't let it sway my view of Elvis as an entertainer - (his finest work being "TTWII") - nor as the person I think he could have been without all the moochers mooching off him . . . . . . . Dan The Man: You say that "Boycott is something they do in fanatic countries" - you could NOT be more mistaken about that. Boycotting is a privilege, a right, and moreover, an obligation. Here in America, consumers have all but relinquished their rights to demand the best from major corporations and companies to whom they pay their hard-earned dollars. If you're not happy with a product or service, then you should boycott the company, don't buy the product, don't return to the place of business, whatever, but the point is that consumers DO have rights and should use them appropriately.
PTCJones wrote on October 10, 2006
The concept of boycotting this release is absurd. This release is not aimed at hardcore fans, but casual buyers to add to their Christmas collections and if die hard fans want this also, then good luck to them. When I criticized the re-release of the Elvis album with a new added cardboard sleeve earlier this year, Greg Nolan said, "I don't see anyone claiming (or BMG) : "you must have this album!" If you bought the upgrade last year, you have it, folks!" and I fail to see how this release is any different.

Why is "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" not on it ?
elvis-aotc wrote on October 10, 2006
The two perfect Christmas cd's of Elvis are still yet to come. The first one is should be for Elvis fans and the general public. This cd should contain both original Christmas albums from Elvis, including the song "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" with a totall of 24 tracks. All the songs should be newly remastered complete takes, so that you also have the complete take of "Silent Night", without the spoken words of Elvis in the beginning. The second cd should come from the "Follow That Dream" label, This cd should contain all the outtakes from both albums. FTD could also consider to make a special two disc release. The first cd as mentioned earlier with the 24 tracks, the second cd with the outtakes. A bit like the "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" cd, but than better. Nice project would that be, BMG/ Sony (Ernst) can contact me......... (elvis-aotc)

elvis-atoc: Good point..that is what they should do, but wether or not that happens, time will tell. Until then, I'll stick with my "If everyday Was Like Christmas" collection. Also a heads up to Dixieland Rocks..I didn't even think about the fact that the original Christmas album cover came from the Jailhouse Rock photo sessions, thanks for the reminder.

don't buy the junk they throw out there. it's like they drew names out of a hat and put them on a cd. boycott is something that oftens results in positive change, so what's wrong with that?? but there are way more important things in the world right now to boycott. i think too much thought and time is being put into this elvis business, what with all the fanatics that nit-pick this and that and jump all over people who don't agree with them. but if people don't have anything better to do with their lives, then i guess they can spend it obsessing over the cds and dvds and all epe marketing junk and whatever.

Gentlemen, reading your posts has brought a little chuckle to me thank you all for your tips on this cd but all anyone has to do is look at the selection and realize they have all the songs already all it is it is a different cover haha...And if people want to buy it they will buy it... T C B

SSR: I'd stick with If Everday Was Like Christmas, too, if they would reissue it with a much needed sound upgrade.
