The Movie Soundtracks

December 01, 2013 | Music

Sony has announced the new 20-CD Soundtrack box-set "The Movie Soundtracks" to be released 3 January 2014. Twenty soundtrack albums of the King of Rock'n'Roll, presented as mini "Vinyl" replica CDs plus and informative booklet and all remastered.

The real interest to Elvis collectors would be the 'Jailhouse Rock' album (originally released in South Africa), the 'Follow That Dream / Kid Galahad' double-feature plus the 'Kissin’ Cousins' and 'Roustabout' remastered versions still only available via The Complete Masters set.

The other featured albums are: Loving You, King Creole, G. I. Blues, Blue Hawaii, Girls! Girls! Girls!,
It Happened At The World’s Fair, Fun In Acapulco, Viva Las Vegas, Girl Happy, Harum Scarum, Frankie And Johnny, Paradise, Hawaiian Style, Spinout, Double Trouble, Clambake and Speedway.

Thank goodness that Clambake is on it. It makes me spontaneously do the Clam!..

Speedway sees its first stand alone cd release here as well. I for one am so happy to get this!! How long have fans been complaining that he didn't get the same treatment as the Beatles with their 2009 box set. Well, this is about as good as we are going to get from Sony. Admittedly, it isn't as classy a presentation as the beatles set, but for me the completist, it is what I have been waiting for!! Already have the first classic box. I am preordering ASAP. I actually requested this from Sony. Thank you Sony!

Looking at the box design, I see a small image of the "Flaming Star/Follow That Dream/Wild In the Country" DOUBLE FEATURES cd cover. For the sake of being accurate with their details on this new set, Sony will have needed to change the fine print on that from "Plus Wild In The Country" to "Plus Kid Galahad". Otherwise, it will appear as though the "Wild In The Country" soundtrack is included.

The new soundtrack box amazon links take us to Alanis Morsett vinyl unplugged. I have already informed amazon of this, but they will be more likely to fix it if more people make noise. Lets get this done together in the Elvis community.

I wonder if I Want To Be Free will have the original spliced ending that was issued on the original 45EP and A Date With Elvis LP, (and FTD CD) or if it will be the version that Sony typically puts out? Also it is VERY cool that the Jailhouse Rock CD is the South African LP version. I had that LP many years ago.

Finally, stand alone cd versions of World's Fair; Kissin' Cousins; Spinout; Double Trouble and others. I'm "in,"
TheMemphisFan wrote on December 10, 2013
Technically they're not "stand-alone" versions because the entire box set has to be purchased to get them.

I'll be more than happy to purchase the entire set in order to get single CD versions of certain soundtracks for the first time. That will allow me to unload the lion's share of my Double Features collection.

I like to collect and compare different mixes/masters. I am keeping the double features. Newer is not always better. The mixing on 2000's Promised Land Expanded and the 70s box is much better than the 2007 masters of the 70s material in my opinion. I am sure at least some of the Double Features mixes I am going to like better as well.

I detest twofers (more than one LP per disc). I don't care what collection they're in or what year they were mastered and/or remixed. Good bye, good riddance Double Features series. The 2000 Promised Land? OMG. I much prefer the sound of the recent FTD release.
