Pressrelease Elvis Christmas CD

September 27, 2006 | Music
Here is a press release from SONY BMG's Strategic Marketing Group on the upcoming "Elvis Christmas" CD.

On October 3 SONY BMG's Strategic Marketing Group will release Elvis Christmas. This definitive, career-spanning collection of holiday songs from Elvis Presley incorporates all the tunes from the 1957 hit Elvis' Christmas Album and his equally acclaimed 1971 Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas for the first time on a single disc. He interprets Christmas-time standards, holiday hymns, as well as several gospel tunes that reflect the spirit of the season. All 23 tracks have been upgraded with DSD technology for optimum sound quality. The original albums are not part of the active Elvis catalog.

Elvis' Christmas Album, recorded in three days of sessions, may have been simply conceived as an ephemeral holiday souvenir for his eager young followers, but over the years it has come to be regarded as one of Elvis's finest LPs by both critics and fans. In the nearly 50 years since its release, the album, in various formats, has sold more than 14 million copies in the United States alone. The lineup from that album has been combined here with all the material from the only other holiday disc Presley ever made, his 1971 collection, Elvis Sings the Wonderful World Of Christmas. Sales of that equally well-received album have exceeded 3 million.

In the course of this definitive collection, Elvis Christmas, Elvis considers every aspect of the holiday season, from its frivolity to its solemnity, from the excitement of getting wished-for presents to the bittersweet longing for those people and things we might be missing to the fun of hanging out near the mistletoe. Elvis conjures up a vision of the holidays as we all know them -- or at least as we wish them to be -- and that's why these songs will never go out of style.

Apparently Sony/BMG has forgotten that all of Elvis' Christmas songs have previously been released together on single disc collections entitled "If Everyday Were Like Christmas" and "White Christmas". Actually, this collection is missing a song. "If Everyday Was Like Christmas". I give the music 5 stars. But originality of concept only gets 1 star.

It's always nice to see an Elvis Presley Christmas album in the shops. The 1957 version I bought back then was/is a classic! I guess I 'll be writing the same thing about the latest version of Elvis's Christmas Album this time next year....if I'm still here:-)

Elvis Christmas Album 1970 is certified as 9 platinum in the US. It is a dissapointment that BMG did not give it that final push to make a Diamond award. Or perhaps it's there already???

The American cover back in 1957 was different from the UK version, so even back then we were getting variety:-) But we didn't get picture sleeves for UK HMV and RCA singles:-( Elvis's Christmas Album of 1957 really had us discerning listeners tuning in to the amazing range of Elvis's extraordinary voice, nothing he did after really surprised us, the promise had been made! Hi Greg, nice to see you! The BBC TV Elvis ad For BBC 2 Radio just came on our TV...uncanny:-)

The two perfect Christmas cd's of Elvis are still yet to come. The first one should be for the general public and the Elvis fan. This cd should contain both original Christmas albums from Elvis, including the song "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" with a total of 24 tracks. All the songs should be newly remastered complete takes, so that you also have the complete take of "Silent Night" on it, without the spoken words of Elvis in the beginning. The second perfect Christmas cd should come from the "Follow That Dream" label. This cd should contain all the outtakes from both albums. FTD could also consider to make a special two disc release. The first cd as mentioned earlier with the 24 tracks, the second cd with the outtakes. A bit like the "If Every Day Was Like Christmas" cd, but then with only outtakes on the second cd. Artwork for this 2 disc release should come from the original first album releases. Nice project would that be. BMG/ Sony (Ernst) can contact me
