Mike Stoller On Spankox Jailhouse Rock Remix

While in Memphis during Elvis week 2008 the Italian DJ Spankox met with Mike Stoller, the composer of “Jailhouse Rock” and many other Elvis Presley hits. His reaction on the remix of ghis classic "Jailhouse Rock" was: “It’s a fantastic album; I wonder how Spankox managed to do this incredible job. Thankyou to Spankox for the great ”Re:Version” of the song that I wrote with Jerry Leiber in 1957, “Jailhouse Rock”: I love it!”.

Spankox will be the special guest on October 12 at the Elvis 2008 concert in Milan. He will perform live offering a special national preview of his "Re:Versions" album. Go to our event section for the details.

Spankox, I really like the remixes you did, especially "Jailhouse Rock" & "Baby Let's Play House". Will there be another re:versions album? I'd like to hear remixes of "Treat Me Nice" and "Rip It Up" if you do another remix collection.

Still sounds to me like horse droppings - and always will

I had a copy of the remix album as a birthday present and it is really growing on me after two or three plays. The tracks are both refreshing and respectful of the originals. I think that it would appeal to younger record buyers but it won't sell without publicity. Sony/BMG doesn't seem to care about promoting it.

I only became an Elvis fan in my 40s and love most all of Elvis' music, however, I also do love the professionally done remixes. They have their place ... JXL vs ELvis is even on my children's playlists (young adults). If the remixes are as respectfully done as on Re:Versions and attract more young ones to become interested in Elvis and his music, I'm all for it.

I met Mike in Memphis at the Elvis Insiders Conference. We spent two hours sitting side by side signing authographs at the Cannon Center. Then we had lunch together talking about music and writing songs. He's a great person and was a great honor for me to meet one of the most influential writers and producers of post world war II popular music. He told his story about the recording of "Jailhouse Rock", how Elvis sang it while he and Jerry were listening. And then choosing the take n.9 after Elvis sang many more takes because he was never satisfied. In this video you can see the first time I played to him the Spankox Re:Version of "Jailhouse Rock": we were in the car taking us from the Cannon Center to the Peabody Hotel in Memphis. I filmed this with my camera. The following day we went together to the airport and we found ourself in front of a shop that was selling Elvis' tshirts. The first t-shirt on the rack was a t-shirt of "Jailhouse Rock". Coincidences... :-)

Why would you want to buy it? it's awful! I think Mike Stoller was being polite. He's hardly gonna tell him to his face that it stinks!

Seems the only way to buy this cd in the UK is online. Havn't seen a copy anywhere. Tried HMV. Zavvi (Ex Virgin megastores), Woolworths and WH Smiths. Not a sign of it anywhere. Will the Christmas duets get a similiar treatment?
