Great News! What a spring we Elvis fans will have.

This sounds good, but what bad luck that the recording of "You can have her" wasn't done via the soundboard. Does anyone know how long the message board on elvis-collectors.com will be closed for?!

This is the best Elvis News I've heard in a very long time! I lived most of my life near Los Angeles, just outside of San Bernardino. Live In L.A. will hold great sentimental value for me. And the photo book will make it that much more exciting! My favorite concert era is 1972, so the American Trilogy release is a must have. Go FTD!
MarkE wrote on February 21, 2007
this is very interesting and unexpected, i definatley wont be buying the 1972 FTD, but i might consider buying this, i will wait til nearer the time and decide, but excellent news about the 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Cant Be Wrong classic album :-D another definate buy! well done FTD!

This is a winner ;)

I would imagine the end is missing from the Forum tape, so the other songs have been added to complete the flow of a concert. This is a must-buy for me. A photo book with a CD would have been an unimaginable dream a few years ago.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on February 21, 2007
First of all,i thought they had a soundboard tape for the afternoon show,so we could hear you can have her in soundboard quality, that would be the main reason id want this release, second, this is yet another book? how about a release with a booklet without the high price of having to buy a book,i know many of you disagree and want all the pics u can get, im just not into all that, and these releases are getting higher and higher,i sence now ftd is just about quanity!

Is there any possibility that the sound on "You can have her" will be better than it is on "Slippin 'n' slidin with Elvis" and other import releases? Because I think BMG did a great job improving the sound on "When the snow is on the roses" from the "Live in Las Vegas"-set. Otherwise I will probably skip this release, seems too expensive...
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on February 21, 2007
Good question, but im guessing no,the sound on the import live in losangeles was pretty good, and i doubt they have made it sound any better!

This is excellent news!!! a representation from yet ANOTHER TOUR and although they obviously don't have the E/S complete or the A/S the bonus tracks sort of make up for this. getting a whole book as well- what a bonus! Another winner from FTD as far as i'm concerned!
John4126 wrote on February 21, 2007
Never ever thought i would say it but im getting a little bored of the soundboards. They are all too similar for my liking. Just how many times do i want to hear throwaway versions of 'Hound Dog' etc.. BUT i do appreciate there are plenty that will lap this up. The book sounds interesting - maybe thats the way to go with the soundboards from now on. I will purchase this one but not sure how many more i will.
MarkE wrote on February 21, 2007
i agree completley with John4126, i gave up long ago collecting these 'same old' shows, i only buy shows from the 69/70 period mainly
MarkE wrote on February 21, 2007
but like i said before, i will make certain exceptions, and i think i will buy this release, because its not in vegas, i love stadium/auditorium shows, i dont like the vegas shows after 1971.

I have no interest in this.
AlQ wrote on February 22, 2007
Why the Show from 74? Why not both shows from 1970...? They both exist in the vaults... C'mon people at FTD, if you want our hard earned cash, at least have the little bit of sense to give us something we're really craving for and not another one of those 74 Shows.
artfromtex wrote on February 22, 2007
so this will have the underwhelming Duke Bardwell on bass? hmmph.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on February 22, 2007
My thought is actually, why is a losangeles gig such a special thing that it needs 200 pages of pics etc? And the song that is actually differt comes from an audiance recording, whats the deal now with the books? its either or all or nothing now? regualr releases have no ifno such as a booklet yet these shows are picked to be put in a book?
Tony D. wrote on February 22, 2007
This will be a great COLLECTORS' package from FTD; some will want more out-takes from "Clambake", whilst others will want concert recordings! Some will want books, others will want Elvis pillow cases! Some will want previously unpublished photos, others will want slippers with Elvis' head on! It's all a matter of taste and opinion. I believe the show on this package is the show attended by Led Zepellin where they also met up with Elvis backstage.
Jerome wrote on February 22, 2007
you can have her is a nice bonus but for the rest of the show I think we''ll heard this a thousand times. FTD knows that the line-up of this concert isn't that special so with some strategymarketing, just include a photobook (and I agree with mature_elvis_fan75 , why of this period a 200 pics?) and probably double the price....
Tony D. wrote on February 22, 2007
Maybe because the pictures will be mostly previously unseen and better than just ending up in the dumper! It might be best to wait and see the book before making your descision to purchase. The concert too is previously unreleased and contains a fine version of "Big boss man" before all the horn arrangements were brought in, drowning the song!

This is the first time we get to hear anything from this tour in soundboard quality, yet some of you complain. Incredible. Elvis supposedly put on a great show, because he knew Led Zeppelin were in the audience. We’ll have to see about that, though.

once again here we go, all the nagative from people who should just be quiet and save their money. i for one will buy this and support ftd for all their good work they do. maybe they will do more for those who have nothing nice to say. keep em coming ftd
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on February 22, 2007
Why should we be quiet when we just like you buy ftd's also, yes i dont understand 200 page book ,yes you got it,this book would cost me $70 dollars ,sorry,i think thats absurd, and the track that everyone wants is just an audiance recording,so what you support the label,we all do ,every time we make a purchase, but im not going to buy just for that reason, some act as though this label is charity and that we need to give without thought, doesnt mean we dont like the label,we prvoe otherwise everytime we Do buy!
You Dont Know Me wrote on February 22, 2007
I still think this will be 'great release' i mean pictures will cover 1970 AND 1974 which is an excellent idea+ being able to hear the show you see the pictures from is superb! just because the track listing is 'routine' doesn't mean his show isn't 'good!!'. Also Tony this particular version is most probably without the Hors,, but remember it is also completely 'unheard' because it's from previous night 10th May 1974 show! something else to look forward too-the earliest version of it in 1974 to be premiered HERE! Put together well this sounds like something i'll be looking/listening to with great pleasure-after All Elvis looked 'great' during this time!

This is great news! Elvis was in fantastic shape in the first half of 74 and this kind of project ( book/cd) is awesome. The show seems to be very good as most 74 performances, even if the setlist is the same. For those who care for Elvis in the 70´s and soundboars, this project is a dream come true.

I see the "complain about everything" brigade is out in full force tonight... By definition, a certain fatigue might set in but for hard core fans, product of this quality is to be welcomed. I personally struggle with the deluge of FTD's and the relatively high prices. I mean the single CD's, not the 2-CD classic albums, which are quite fair, and then the book/cd projects are steep at first glance, but consider that short-run publishing of any book on quality paper is not cheap either. The book / cd combo offers a more full experience for what might otherwise be "just another FTD soundboard." That said, I think many of us have to pick and choose at this point and one does have to respect that. Even for space reasons, some of us really begin to wonder "when is 'enough' truly enough" - meaning your 27th official copy of "Why Me Lord," Live. But as they say, "don't want it? don't buy it." I remind myself of that, too. As for the sound improvements, it seems to me that for the most part, FTD has the resources to upgrade even bad sound audience or home recordings, such as the wizardry of Kevan Budd. Likewise, Straight Arrow has done wonders with audience tapes, while Fort Baxter's "Classic series" has improved many of their previously released soundboards. So don't put it past them...But "You Can Have Her" will remain exciting to hear even with it's audience recording quality. As for the compiliaton complaint, it's wrong to bring up here, as obviously on this project, it's to cover for missing or cut-off songs. That said, I found "Southern Nights" and "Spring Tours '77" to be very inventive "alternative" shows. Does one really always need another J.D. Sumner dive-bomber routine? Ernst Jorgensen showed some creativity with these. Tony Dobb: it's my understanding that FECC's messageboard is being given a long over-do rest and "cooling off." Stay tuned. Besides, I've been meaning to catch up over here. :)

An officially unreleased show with a photo book which contains many unreleased photos-NICE! Though the set-list is the usual (which was Elvis' fault, after all,so don't blame FTD for this!) and the show is not unreleased (it's out on various CD-R's) but at least we'll get it in good sound quality now. And i have to say that it's a GOOD SHOW! The rare (and officially unreleased) "You Can Have Her" gives an extra value to this CD/book project.

love the cover will love the book(i hope)
Jerome wrote on February 23, 2007
dear FLY-TROUBLE! It isn't Elvis' fault for the same line-up. When he tried new line-ups from songs like the Las Vegas, August 19, 1974, opening show, the audience respons was not as he hoped. therefore he did the songs what the average audience wanted to hear. That's why we get to hear songs like Teddy Bear each concert..a shame

Used to be a bit iffy about the books myself but they continue to improve in content and value - 'Writing for the King' is an absolute belter. Can't wait for this one!
FLY-TROUBLE! wrote on February 23, 2007
Jerome, partly i agree with you,but don't forget that when people from the audience asked him to sing a song,he often refused their requests, though they often requested songs which weren't rare on his set list. I can tell you many examples on this. And when sometimes he sang rare songs like 'Return To Sender','Danny Boy','Moody Blue','Where No One Stands Alone','Such A Night','Shake A Hand','Reconsider Baby','Pieces Of My Life','Turn Around, Look At Me' etc.,he almost always got a big ovation,so my conclusion is that though the audience liked the classic hits, sometimes they wanted to hear rare, unusual songs, too, especially in the mid/late 70's.
Jerome wrote on February 23, 2007
I think you're totally right. But I also believe that Elvis got a lot of lousy requests and mostly Guercio orchestro couldn't live up to them. I also feel that Elvis his memory was pretty bad in lyrics (in the 70's) Look at My Way, he always needed a sheet and there were so much songs he couldn't remember tragically. Even I know the words by heart of so may songs but Elvis kept on singing the same old songs because of his physical state. But really, I believe in that time (now it's changed and listeners wish for something new) the audience consisted of people who didn't know much about him and just wanted to hear familiar songs. Nowadays we see that with a lot of older artists. The general audience doens't care, they just want to see the king. Just listen to some concerts and lsiten to the fans request: it's always love me tender, jailhouse rock, viva las vegas but never songs like snowbird, we can make the morning, always on my mind etc. even burning love and moody blue were to difficult to recall. it's also Elvis his fault in not recalling the lyrics but the general audience weren't expecting anything else than what they knew. That's just the modern look on music, people are little interested in really good music. that's why Elvis is so special because he brought some totally unknown songs to a broad audience and they ALL realized that they are great songs... People, they're so many out there!!

For an audience recording, You Can Have Her is in good quality. It's also an exciting song. A lot of younger fans probably won't have even heard this, so it's great for everyone to finally get it on a legit release!

This book is going for over $120 usd at some sites, why?
You Dont Know Me wrote on February 25, 2007
Over the weekend i gave this show a listen too(from 'fair' Quality audience recordings. Few things are 'special' here and a treat to look forward too.Main show runs approx 1 hour and Elvis sings well throughout, an early 'highlight' is Elvis (unusually) getting a reprise to feature J.D.Sumner on LOVE ME! ... now WAS that because Led Zeppalin WERE in the audience? after all Elvis CLEARLY introduces them just before FUNNY HOW TIME SLIPS AWAY! Oddly enough 'TRILOGY' is the 'Disneyland' version whereas the A/S version was better, completely 'straight' YOU CAN HAVE HER is a wonderful 'surprise' and runs for approx 2'.25" All in all a great show but also 'pretty routine' what happened to YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME from the recorded show on 10th May? NOT worth inxclusion here?
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on February 25, 2007
I guess people have no problem paying $120 for one book, ill pass
FLY-TROUBLE! wrote on February 26, 2007
Mature-elvis,where did you see that price? There are expensive sites (w....w...elvis etc.) and sellers (grabbers like P.D.) everywhere, but i hope that generally it will be much cheaper than $120. I.M.O.,$60 would be a fair price for a photobook & CD,which contains a good, but 'nothing special' show. Maybe i would even pay $80 for it,but $120 is a laughable price. Way too expensive.
You Dont Know Me wrote on February 26, 2007
Well i expect this package will come in around US$110, $120 sounds overpriced and here i'm just quoting the US equivalent of the A$140 i have seen locally, so it won't be 'cheap', but then if the photos are colour and on quality paper-it's worth it, with books ALL depends on the paper stock quality AND how many are in colour or Black & White?Agreed about the soundboard-that's the 'cheap' part of this 'package!'
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on February 26, 2007
The cheapest ive seen these books go for is elvis.com which selles there for $65 except for writing for the king which was $75 because it was so thick, the problem with them is, they refuse to put the item in any kind of protection like bubble wrap, they put the items in a box and do nothing more,im sorry i am not paying what ive seen so far, which is around $110 usd, no book is worth that, and this soundboard show is not that special,if this was a boot it would come with artwork and cost around $30 usd, sorry not paying all the extra for a book, if anyone knows of a plce that has these books at a reasonable price let me know,i was told by one site that i had to be kidding that i thought a $127 was too much, and folks thats before shipping!
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on February 26, 2007
Id like to add that i dont understand why some people want to jump on those of us who thinks there a limit when it comes to pirce and that we should lap up every release no matter what the cost,i ve bought every ftd to date but it seems thats about to change, some of these people who say people like me are complainers dont even buy the products that they think we all should buy! yes i like the ftd label but asking $127 for a book cd before shipping is absurd,id love to know what these cost before they get to us,there should be an official website to buy these to help curve this price hike, there hight to begin with but some places are just crazy with there prices, and yes , ive done my homework,so anyone know of place to get these?
Sergio_Luiz wrote on February 26, 2007
I think its unfair to say that Elvis did not changed his repertoire. Between 1969 to 1977 he added about 80 news songs to his repertoire. And this not counting "one-time-only" songs. The problem is that he did too many shows and we also have acess to too many soundboards.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on February 26, 2007
Thts is very true, unless im mistaken no one ever had or ever has done what he did, tour after tour night after night year after year, and i do think that the crowds had let him know they liked the 50's songs, since alot of them had grown up on his music and were then adults,i think in time he gave up the idea of adding new music to the shows, you can become bored and when your audiance cant see past your early hits that were then 20 years old, what are you left to do? i think id might have tried a little harder, of course im hard headed, maybe id not sold many tickets but id sung new msuic! lol
Sergio_Luiz wrote on February 27, 2007
I think he finally gave up in 1976, even thou he put Unchained Melody, Love Letters and sang part of Early Morning Rain on his shows at that time. In my opinion the March/April 1975 Vegas season was the last time he tried to really update his shows, adding new material from his most recent recording sessions.
Ton Bruins wrote on February 27, 2007
I think it will be a fantastic book, but not for me. I can buy it for 67 euros. No thanks, much too expensive ! And another 1974 soundboard.....
