12,689 total in 5 weeks (4 weeks and a day),,,,,,, lord save us, how disapointingly small.

Quite so, how things have changed in the past fifty years.

Mega-disappointing considering it's Elvis' home country. It'll be interesting to see how the US Singles Box Set has sold. I bet they get more people going through Graceland.

C'mon, folks, as has been said here and elsewhere, the "physical" single in the US is all but dead. This was a symbolic release to drum up some press here and there and it succeeded. And fans in the US have snapped up available copies -when you can find them. Here's an interesting post backing up the "Death of the US single" from EIN: Reality of US CD singles sales: Fifty years after its original release, Heartbreak Hotel recently enjoyed several weeks at #1 on the Billboard CD Singles Sales chart, albeit with paltry sales figures. Jason Edge, president of Elvis International Fan Club posted this message recently on the 2nd To None board: "There has been discussion about singles sales in the US, and I thought I would post a picture out of the Feb 18, 2006 issue of Billboard Magazine to drive home the point that Singles Sales are very, very minor in comparison to Digital Track sales and CD Sales. If you look at the information for year to date sales closely you will notice that: * Store Singles (physical singles) acount for about 1/2 of 1% of single sales * Digital Tracks are outselling physical singles at approx. 182 to 1 ratio * Digital Tracks are now outselling albums (cd & digital albums) * Digital Track sales have more than doubled in the previous year".
