Great Pics

February 15, 2010 | Other

These two beauties were sold on eBay for 1,850 $US. Both color pictures are dated "April 1958", but no extra information - as to where the shots were taken and who's on the picture with Elvis. Both pictures came from a private US collection.

Great looking pictures indeed. Don't think they're from April 1958 though. Elvis just had his hair cut at the end of March for the army. Maybe it was a few weeks earlier?? But really nice images!

For you oldtimers out there, the picture on the left was used on the cover of the 1960 Elvis Yearbook magazine from the USA. Not the giril just Elvis's face was used. Check it out if you can.

I have no insight into this, but I wonder if the pictures were taken in New Orleans since it's 1958, plus the lack of sideburns and overall look of Elvis suggests King Creole-era. It's always interesting to see "new" pictures of Elvis after all these years.

The photo on the left certainly looks like the shot which was much enlarged for the 1960 Yearbook cover, where it appeared in colour! (There was also a reprint of this magazine a bit later) Elvis also got his hair cut & lost his sideburns before King Creole. So my best guess for the photo date is Jan/February 1958, just before King Creole started shooting! He was in the army in April 58, with much shorter hair, so the April date is probably when the girl got her photos back from Boots!
