Ger Rijff Inside Blue Hawaii

October 09, 2008 | Book

Elvis Unlimited announced that Ger Rijff decided to contribute to the next installment in the "Inside" series. Previously Ger Rijff stated that "Inside Love Me Tender" would be the last book he contributed to.

According to the fan club the interest in the "Inside Blue Hawaii" book is the most so far. "And we can promise some very rare pictures, and lots of great memorabilia".

Ger Rijff added to a posting to the announcement from the Elvis Unlimited fan club president Henrik Knudsen on the FECC forum:

"Hey-ho! Knuds, dont overdo your promotion campaign! I've handed over some Blue Hawaii related material for you to use. That's it. Inside Love Me Tender was a different story all together, simply because a lot of the LMT material was meant for my own edition that never was...
Anyway, you have a strong enough team of co-workers to clear the Blue Hawaii job without any serious input from me. But I dont mind to lend a helping hand, should I find more BH related material."

Update October 14:

A Few days later the misunderstanding appears to be solved:

It has come to my attention, some people not fund of Henrik, are now taking the p*zz out of him saying Im involved with his new book project, while on this topic I replied Im not. It's a bit of a misunderstanding between him and me.

When, out of the blue, I mailed him some vintage clippings and photos, he'd figured I was making a "comeback" in the publishing field. He emailed me to discuss this, but I was cut off from emails for several weeks, and didnt get to see his mail.

Because he didnt hear back from me, and the fact we've been hobby friends for over a quarter of a century, he took my silence as an okay to include me in his promotional campain. It all took me by surprise. As I wasnt aware of the fact I was no longer retired...

Anyway, I like what Knuds, Lars and Kenneth do with the Inside series. Elvis is Back is one of my favourite titles not done by myself. And even though Blue Hawaii isnt one of my personal favourites, I can asure you the book will be a fine piece of research from Megan Murphy, and wipe the floor with titles such as Charro and Tickle Me, by you
know who!

Strange!!! The man who thinks ( like Lennon) ´Elvis died when he went into the army´ has even Blue Hawaii material in his collection :-0 Perhaps he realizes after 31 years that theres more than Hound Dog and Good Rockin´ Tonight in the Elvis´ cataloque. Well, better late than never, i suppose ;-)

Yeah, c'mon Ger - get with the times. Get out your surfboard and dance the rock-a-hula! It's a little known fact but Chad Gates is Gareth Gates' father. Hot damn tamali!

Better stop picking on Ger ! He's an Elvis-expert and published already a lot of great books about our man! It's so easy to criticise. Always El.

Hi Benny! I totally agree with you.... but.... i have to admit to find it strange too that Ger, who only love the 50s Elvis and the 68-69 years, co-works on a Blue Hawaii book. When you read some of Gers´ postings on the messageboards, many times he kicks Elvis´ ass about the 60s and 70s era. So... strange it is!

Successful movie, but one that started the downward 60's trend of silly plots, and thin songs. Theres only one 60's movie Id care to go 'Inside' on, and thats Viva Las vegas, the only hip musical Elvis did in the 60's. The dramas he did would be nice also.

Hi commoneverybody, you're right : it is indeed a bit strange, nevertheless I appreciate his co-working. Always El.

steve hits the nail, same I wrote in the FTDclassic album thread. And well, those who critizise Ger for his work: A professional does the job, either he likes the thing or not. Instead of bashing let's just say: Thank you Ger, for another great job on a painstaking project. You got all my support, whatever your personal opinion on certain moments in Presleys career are. This proofes professionalism to me. So let's not be too harsh then, because to everyone who likes this period in Presley's life Ger did a great favour, or am I wrong?
