Elvis On Tour Coming To DVD And Blu-ray

This is great news, but what was the original source and can we find out more? Dare I believe it?

im so excited i dont care if its the orginal version thats being released. but it makes me wonder if they will do the same thing they done with thats the way it is back in 2001. since its coming this fall makes me also wonder if they will have elvis on tour special edition on august 16 then the dvd release. so many excited questions in my head now. thank you epe and mgn for finnally listening to the fans plea!

Yes!Elvis Best Concert Movie will be out in DVD. About time.

Great news. However, this movie is not in the same league as TTWII in my opinion. Too much use of the letterbox format and Elvis did not look as good. Still, it will be great to get a first rate copy on DVD at last. I hope that there will be a bonus section of new material of which there is much.

The movie deserves to be advertised just like Elvis #1 Hits Album. Oh My good God !!! If it's true, we must show the world the real Rockin' Elvis by buying this dvd.

This is excellent news! Pity we've got to wait until autumn, but we've waited so long I suppose another 9 months won't matter. Good to read it will also come out on Blu-Ray – that should get the best out of the 16mm negative. I imagine they will want to get full mileage out of the original version before recutting a Special Edition, but hope I'm wrong! Looks like the 17-film box will certainly contain all the MGM movies; originally there were 13, but but due to a tie-in and acquisitions by Warner Bros I would guess the other 4 will be Follow That Dream, Kid Galahad, Frankie & Johnny & Clambake.

No the other 4 are Tickle Me , Clambake, Charro and This Is Elvis.

about time! i hope they remaster it and we have super sound and picture. i really hope they do a special cut with remastered outtakes but we didnt even get remastered outtakes for that's the way it is so i highly doubt we will for this.

Elvis On Tour doesn't need a special cut, since the original is perfect. It would be nice to have a three DVD box with all rehearsals and three complete shows added to it.

Brilliant news....can't wait for this dvd release, still the most electrifying documentary performances. I show the vhs copy to many friends and the excitement just shows on there faces... hoping for extra footage .... this just has to be promoted on TV and i'm sure it will. Well done to everyone in the world who pushed for this DVD to be released......

actually i do agree, i would drather see the original remastered, and then a special edition with the complete show and reahearsals on, but we all know its a dream and highly unlikely that will ever happen. and im pretty sure they filmed 5 shows. could be wrong.

"Elvis On Tour" on DVD and Blue-Ray??? I still have my VHS tape that I bought in the old over size box in the late 1980's (Remember those? the front actually swung open and the movie box had about inch of plastic casing around where the tape went). This is good news indeed, I just wish it was a Spring release. The 17 movies don't interest me as much as I have all of his movies on VHS and/or DVD although it would be great if they could find the prints of "Harum Scarum" that contain "Wisdom Of The Ages" and "Animal Instinct" (bad songs, but it would be nice to have something new) or some type of outtakes from his MGM movies. There was supposedly prints of "Flaming Star" that included the songs "Summer Kisses, Winter Tears" (people laughed when they saw the scene, Elvis sings to the Native Americans) and "Britches", but I realize "Flaming Star" is not an MGM movie.

Goodness! Almost too good to be true...I keep my fingers crossed that they have had the decency to treat the material with the respect it deserves.

Well that's the news we have been waiting for? at last a dvd release of ON TOUR and blu-ray at that,would be nice if it was in the same league as Aloha and 68' dvd releases were done,now is the time if they do it right to put out a ultimate edition to go with the ultimate edition 17 dvd box set.As we get more details in the coming weeks/months hopefully all our questions will be answered.......trouble is now what are we all going to campaign for now?.........CBS tv special anyone?

This will be great, complete my collection! Will defintely buy but I wonder though if there is any reason to purchase this on Blue-Ray other than making it a sturdier disc. I mean what extras could they put on the disc to justify a Blue ray edition. I didn't think the video technology of 1972 would allow for that. But I don't own a blue ray player and I've only bought one Blue Ray movie which of course I've not been able to see. Can anyone help with this question?

On Tour and Elvis circa 1972 is by far my favorite Elvis era. The Hampton Roads footage alone just blows my mind! I was so shocked by the news, I went to Elvis.com just to take a look for myself. Simply fantastic! I can hardly wait!

Well, this is what we wanted for a long time. Till recent postings everybody on this site begged for this rather that the re-re-releaes of this or that movie and even when cds were announced (nothing to do with movies). I am overjoyed by this news. I don't have a bluray machine, but if I read that this release is superb in bluray compared to dvd I will definitely buy a machine for it! 2010 has a wonderful start, though fall is still far away.

I still can´t believe it and this is so exciting. I´m among those who would have loved to see EOT on dvd, I have wanted that for such a long time. I definitely prefer EOT to Aloha, TTWII and Comeback Special. Lord, what a performer he was and he really was on fire during these shows

I sure hope they will do it justice with a Blue-ray release? And maybe one can dream of other titles beeing released in Blue-ray also. TTWII original springs to mind!

Good news ! can't wait for the improved sound and picture. i'm a bit skeptic about the blu-ray part though. films from that era haven't transfered with much improvement on that format, however I hope a deluxe set with all outtakes isn't far away ( and no re-editing please eg the 68 special grrrrr..)

EOT has almost become the Holy Grail for many Elvis fans. I never thought it would happen. I hope they are creative with the editing. The interviews etc were great first time you see it, but would prefer a version that focusses on the music. On that topic, I was a little disappointed that the 25th anniversary concert DVD had so many interruptions. Hope they produce a new version from this years tour where there is nothing but Elvis with the supporting cast just staying in the background.

Don't worry about quality in 1972. It's film, so we will see the difference om Blu-ray, even though I think DVD quality is good enough. I just get distracted by looking at his pores.

I really hope they get the mixing right, TTWII was a bit of a let down in this regard for me.

Milkcow blues boogie , again ! I have given up on getting the 72 Eon Tour "super-enhanced" version (complete various cities venues) with edited 200 hrs filming done by MGM; Alterrnative according to EPE now would be to spend another $250 for that complitation DVD Box which is not right. We're back to milking the cow....also in 2010. Help: someone step in to do it right! Please ! Can't help but agrily let all fans know my big disappointment.

My least favourite bit would have to be the "kiss montage". Kind of ruins the song. Do we really want/need to be reminded? I know it was intended as a gibe at the formulaic quality of the pictures Presley made, but it makes it seem as though the directors are making a rather unflattering analogy which serves to blemish the otherwise solid performance of 'Love Me Tender'.

I am happy at this news as this needs to be on DVD, but I will still watch TTWII more often. The performances are just superior.

If the "kiss montage" is removed I won't buy EOT. I love that sequence.

In not sure what the fuss is about, this has been available on (bootleg) dvd for years. I wonder will fans need to buy the pointless 17 disc boxset to get On Tour??

Sirblkan: I was born 10,000 years ago,man ! No, I will NOT buy this DVD Box Set if it does not contain an "enhanced, expanded version of the E on Tour 72 movie". Hope they let Jerry Schilling do the "editing" out of those 200 hrs of MGM filming as Larry Geller suggested to EPE ! a long time ago already ! No doubt, the stupid intervfiews with blind, dumm doormen and maids should be CUT out and fans should be awarded by ADDING at least 60 minutes of EP on stage in all those various cities where they filmed and where he performed (especially in Texas where he gave great performances). Why did they spend so much money of letting MGM filmcrews travel around the country while the producer/director didn't keep any of those fabulous shows, in ?? Strong believer that EPE and Turner/Warner Bros/MGM "messed up" everything by making the wrong decisions about the re-do of TTWII.....Should have given this project to real successful marketing gurus in the entertainment business; not to hillbillys ! So folks!

Elvis On Tour is by far the best of Elvis, he is more polished with his performance and the band sounds much better than TTWIII, If they do this right it should be at least a 3 DVD set with Disc 1 being the origanal movie, 2nd Disc, two live shows from start to finish and Disc 3, 2 + hours of best of rehearsal footage. This would be there best selling DVD if Warner does it the right way..

Would love to see Suspicious Minds full version,filmed for Elvis ON Tour.I bet it was wild.

I just watched Elvis on Tour (that I recorded from Turner Classic Movies) and really enjoyed it. When I saw Elvis The Concert in 1997 in Memphis I really felt like I was in Elvis on Tour. It was like a dream come true. Anyway, Elvis on Tour is the best concert movie and really tells his story. He sounds great, especially in Greensboro. It's pure magic and I am really looking forward to the Blu-ray version - hopefully expanded with additional footage. Elvis sounds amazing on Bridge and You Gave Me a Mountain. His Greensboro version is my all time favorite version (although I personally enjoy the CBS version, too). I hate to say it but the Elvis on Tour material sounds better than Madison Square Garden. I think an Elvis on Tour Soundtrack would have been awesome! Maybe FTD will release a 2 or 3 CD set for us along side the new DVDs. I went to Graceland last year for the special jumpsuit exhibit and saw the jumpsuit that Elvis mentions, "for those of you who can't see back there this is an owl."

Quick addition - I really hope they add the rehearsal footage where Elvis sings, "You Better Run" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Those are amazing to listen to and I'd love to be able to actually hear and see them. Those are some magic moments are in my book.

I also agree that he sounds better here then on The Madison Square Garden concerts. I think his voice seemed richer for some reason, but I am not sure.

Will such a new DVD include a rehearsal of EP in the studio at MGM singing "Portrait of my love" as we have (thanks to boots) on (rare) CD ?? Why doesn't Sillerman acquire the rights from Warner Bros/MGM/Turner to let Jerry Schilling do a re-make (only for fans) of EonTour 72 movie showing only ALL the footage that MGM filmed in during those 12-city concerts in 1972 ??? This way, 250,000+fans in the industrialized world (who have DVDs) could buy such a fantastic, for sure successful new product of the EPE !!! Forget WBrosz/TedTurner/MGM....get us, let us see those 200 hrs footage we haven't seen of the King on stage ! No further delays please. FTD can make a 4CD Box (+ booklet) out of it and sell it successfully !
