Elvis Odds On For 1000th Number One-bookies

January 10, 2005 | Music
After taking a number of large bets, bookies William Hill have slashed the odds on Elvis having the 1000th No.1 this weekend from Even money to a 1/8 near certainty. On Sunday Elvis racked up his 19th number 1 single and this weeks release of One Night looks almost certain to rack up his 20th No.1 on Sunday. There are a number of other contenders who are in with a sporting chance and Hills make Ciara, a 19 year old R & B act from the States, joint second favourite with the Scissor Sisters at 14/1. The outsiders include The Killers 20/1, Steve Brookstein 25/1 and the Roosters at 33/1

"Last week we were offering Even money that Elvis would have the 1000th number one but we had not factored in the fanatical nature of Elvis fans. Judging by the weight of money that we have seen for Elvis it looks like the Elvis juggernaut is definitely on the road. That said, we probably owe Elvis fans a payout as we have a taken a number of bets over the years on Elvis to be found alive which is currently 1000/1." said Hills spokesman Rupert Adams

This is brilliant news. These are the guys you want to listen too, bookies aren't daft you know. Elvis is a cert on Sunday, Number 20 here we come.

According to the UK William Hill website tonight, you can no longer place bets on the 1000th Number One. That would indicate that its a foregone conclusion Elvis has walked it ! I think the bookies have taken a battering ! Great news.

It will be great if Elvis reach the #1 spot as the 1000 #1. Elvis is still the KING and break records 27 years after it´s untimly death. Fantastic !!! TCB.

And not a single mention of the success on www.elvis.com. An absolute scandal....

Your right. This is such big news, with Elvis being on TV and in the papers virtually every day, and elvis dot com dont seem fit to give it a mention? Perhaps they only think us English fans are important when we ship 500+ bodies over there every January and August, or when the awards for our achievments here actually land in their hands!!!

I must admit to being somewhat surprised that there was no mention in the news section in elvis.com about this chart success. There is a lot in the newspapers about Elvis at the moment because of this and it just seems to have passed EPE by... For all the comments about the bookmakers here, they certainly seem to be switched on. I know of one person (who will remain nameless here) who tried to put on a bet that Elvis would achieve at least 3 Number One's in the UK in 2005. William Hill's would not give odds ! Roll on Sunday with Elvis at Number 1 again!

Don't be hard on EPE. They tend to be up to their necks for the birthday week. Fans around the world are proud of what has been achieved in the uk. And it ain't over yet!!

Personally if offered the choice of 5-6 number one's but not this week, or this weeks number one and no others..I'd take this weeks, for all the publicity the 1,000th number one would create. What about you others? My guess is that in total we'll get 4 number ones, and each release will make top 5. Reason being, there are some big names releasing records in February, and we also have that charity tsunami record coming out, that's likely to take top spot for 4 weeks or so. Isn't it exciting though. Who would have thought that in 2005 we'd all be listening to the chart rundowns hoping Elvis makes number one, 27 years after he stopped making records!!

The Time newspaper in the UK has an article about Elvis and the 1000th #1. The said it looks like Ciara is a sure thing for it, with her song already beinging such a big hot in the US, with E maybe at #2.

I have just been on the site you said cockney and it is interesting news about One Night. And i agree i would love to see Elvis have the 1000th number one in the uk and it would not bother me if none of the other singles got to number one

For all UK fans. We all have friends and relatives who, whilst not being big Elvis fans, are big music lovers. What better gift for their birthday this year than a copy of the UK's 1,000th ever number one record. Would this not be a rare and wonderful gift? So, so as not to have The King stall on us, why not pop out and buy a couple more copies of 'One night' (if you can find any out there) to not only push it to the number one position...but to have that gift put by for your loved ones. Lets face it, you wont be able to pick this up in a bargain bucket in a few weeks will you? These will be going on ebay for £50+ because of the significance of the single, and the rarity value. Get one now if you can for £3.99.

For those of you who buy more than 1 copy in any outlet, make sure each individual single is bought seperately. If 2 copies are bought as a single sale only 1 will count for the charts.

I am amazed at some comments at the subdued response to the idea that Elvis could have handfuls of no.1s in the next few moths-he has 3 in 27 and now the possibility of this-I know there will be points of competition but if your like me seize the moment and soak this moment of potential glory -its unlikely to happen again-lets hope BMG/EPE make the most of this promotional exercise with a link to a future(TV backed) or limks to Elvis The Concert which will be touring at the end of this run.Dig it while you can -thats my message TCB

THATS ALRIGhT MAMA FOR TOP 40???? Just been onto Amaxons top 100 cd singles chart(Tues night) where One Night has moved to the top of their purchase/order chart with the remaining 15 singles immediately behind. Noticed that TAM has reentered at # 35 ahead of Steve Brookstein (now at 57) and only two behind Bandaid(at 33).This is a daily sales record but if it represents sales generally and can be sustained over the week this could mean that TAM could rechart.More so because 15 of the discs higher in the chart are not available yet(ie Elvis's next releases).Take these out of the equation and TAM is twenty first best seller today on actually available singles on Amazon -nice thought that it may reenter somewhere in the lower reaches of the Top 40 on Sunday along with One Night. The point about the limited edition nature of these singles made over the messageboard ia also illustrated here in that Jailhouse Rock and All Shook Up have disappeared entirely from this charts top 100 indicating what may well happen to JHR on Sunday.
