I thought it was 1975s... Full of crap again if it has the same sound quality as the previous legal/illegal recordings...

Any information about its content? Any special recording? Maybe Ernst will pack up his sun-stuff in this one...Good guess ?

Looks like the title is only 20 years out!

Sure hope this will have the Louisiana Hayride 1956 unreleased show on it as promised years ago. There is no better time than the 75th birthday celebration. How about the Memphis 61 benefit shows? Happy October everyone!

I'm planning on this being a career "greatest hits" compilation. If it turns out to be something else it would be a big surprise.

Let's wait first what this new boxset has to offer before we burn down this set! And remember that this set is for the general public..i'm pretty sure that they will put something on it so we hard-core fans will buy this also...if it has the same sound quality as the close-up box...we have a winner!

One release after another. The flood continues. Same songs under new covers. Why not do nothing for a while and get all the powers that be together and put together the ultimate DVD anthology? How long are we going to wait for that and enhanced Elvis On Tour? We are an aging group and we dont need all these compilation releases.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on October 07, 2009
Another compilation, whats its been 2 weeks since the last one? how about a box set of the on tour shows, and how about a dvd set as well,oh yea thats right Elvis is the king of compilations,.so some say its for the public,so why try to confuse buyers with endless compilations, surely after all of the cd's that have been released, theres enough compliations to choose from!

Another rip-off.
Theo wrote on October 07, 2009
What's with all the negativity? Why would this be a rip off? I think it's a cool picture. It's well known, but there's nothing wrong with using it for a new release... In an earlier news message on this site it was announced that Sony will release this 4 cd set a month before what would have been Elvis' 75th birthday. I'm glad that Sony at least thinks of commemorating Elvis' 75th with a release. I think it will be a set along the lines of Close Up and Today Tomorrow and Forever, hopefully with (mostly) unrelased stuff. Let's just wait with our comments (either negative or positive) till the tracklisting is announced and we have something to write about.

Theo:that's the spirit !!! Why are some people always bashing products before they even are released ? Always El.
dgirl wrote on October 07, 2009
All the negatvity? Are we forgetting history? If this release is filled with unreleased stuff, then great for us but it will suffer the same fate as Close-up and those other boxsets with unreleased tracks. Weak sales. So, I doubt it. Lets not forget this is a general release so it will probably contain well-known tracks compiled together once again. The public generally doesnt care about outtakes. But lets wait & see. I'm not hopeful for much. Just sounds like another compilation. Anyway, isnt that what we have FTD for?

Well, as the silver 6 LP box was published in 81 I bought it and there was a lot of hard to find material on it: New Frontier tape, Hawaii 61, Beyond the Reef and other beauties for the vaults, so let's hope for the best that they come up with a real gem on it, Louisiana Hayride...yess Sir! Anytime. Would a worthy and significant opportunity to do so. Vegas 69 rehearsals...wish list...;-)

sorry for the typos...it's late over here.

I agree with Benny, Theo & dgirl about the rush to being negative. Leave it to the usual "experts" to weigh in with their same old tired & predictable moaning & whining BEFORE the content of the release is even announced. I used to think that some of the EP impersonators were the worst thing in the EP world. To me, the most embarrassing thing at the top of the list in the EP world is the complainers who find fault & negativity with nearly everything including this release before the content is even annouced. Good grief. If this boxed set is like the previous boxed sets, then I say, this is a WINNER. Hats off to Sony/BMG for this boxed set. The cover looks great. I'm looking forward to seeing the content of this collection. Hey, if this set offers nothing new, so what? I don't have to buy it. If I do buy it, no big deal either. But enough with the whining.
Ruthie wrote on October 08, 2009
Thank you Dixieland Rock. Maybe we won't hear the all familiar words like stupid & crap before the CD is even heard!
benny scott wrote on October 08, 2009
Glad to add 2 other names ( Dixieland Rock and Ruthie) to my list of people with common sense ! You're absolutely right Dixieland Rock : if the new release brings nothing new , so be it . Nobody is forced to buy it. Stunning cover I must say! Always El.

With a killer cover like the one shown surely the contents will be just as good. How in the world can we give our opinions about this without even knowing the bloody contents??....i have a lot of respect for the way reviews are done when we know what the contents are, until then save you energy until we know and then you can eat your words because i have a feeling this will be well worth the wait.

looks like a digi-pack to me. these are easier to store but am i the only one who misses the boxes eg complete 50's masters?
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on October 08, 2009
Maybe it will be something worthwhile, but i dont think there needs to be any more compilations,of course if this set has one of the on tour shows, then i wll eat my hat and post the pics, the negative vibe you get from some of us is because there are far to many releases out there, yet the classic albums are hidden on a collectors labe,of course no one forces anyone to buy anything, but better control of the label is needed!
Dixieland Rock wrote on October 08, 2009
It's refreshing to hear positive comments like from Ruthie, Benny & drjohncarpenter. I agree with your comments. I can tell you haven't lost the fun of collecting EP music. For me, that's what it's all about. The day collecting EP music isn't fun anymore, is the day I'll quit collecting it. The thing is, I pass up most of the EP releases now simply because I don't want them or I have most of the songs. But those same releases may appeal to others the same way as the ones I buy appeal to me. If "Elvis 75" is anything like the previous boxed sets, then I say, bring it on.

Nothing new, just the same old junk with a new cover. Enjoy...
Jesse Garon Presley wrote on October 09, 2009
hush FLY-TROUBLE you don't read previous messages do you? you don't know whats on this release,so before you criticize and accuse, await this release and do not judge beforehand please
FLY-TROUBLE! wrote on October 09, 2009
In the last 5 years the main label released nearly nothing new. Also they didn't mention in the announcement that there will be unreleased stuff on this new release. Why? Because there won't be any. Just the same old crap.
drjohncarpenter0117 wrote on October 09, 2009
Sure over the years we have had some nice releases and of course there is alot we would love to see on a 4 cd box set when a anniversary date is reached....but i found it hard to understand just how Elvis fans (not all) can be negative on just about everything that comes out.If this box set is geared up for the general public then so be it,the cover....if this is the final release is fantastic and shows Elvis as most of the general public would remember him by....to coin a phrase"Elvis the Pelvis"........the contents when released don't bother me as i happen to be one of those fans who loves the thrill of collecting Elvis and sees all things in a good way....don't get me wrong there have been some real stinkers over the years but they are in my collection and will carry on this way.Have the greatest respect for the 'Experts' and of course value anyones opinion positive or negative.........but please say" i told you so" when you have the full facts.....until then NEGATIVE COMMENTS are not required.
benny scott wrote on October 09, 2009
drjohncarpenter : very well said ! Agreed 200% ! There's nothing wrong buying stuff that already was released in the past, but in another form or presentation. I respect and understand the collectors. And after all, it's their money and it's nobody's bussiness how and on what they spend it. Always El.
jean michel wrote on October 09, 2009
Whatever the content of this new release is , the point is that Sony won't bother promoting it (just like 95 % of the releases put out in the last few years. I guess they make a little money BUT with this kind of politics but it sure does make any good to Elvis & his legacy as a genius entertainer & a recording Artist . When you compare how EMI treats the Beatles & their repertoire ; the way RCA, BMG, & now Sony MIStreated & continue mistreating ELVIS & his music is a crying shame.
theoldscudder wrote on October 09, 2009
This is only for the diehards. The general public will not be buying this. Doubtful if it will merit release. I say that from the label's track record over the years. I'm thinking this will be just another rehash like Entertainer Of The Century, Platinum, & the numerous other box sets released over the years with the same theme. Maybe there will be an unreleased outtake. I hope I'm wrong but what else can it be?
Steve V wrote on October 09, 2009
Whatever it will contain Amazon is listing it for a whopping 59.95, so buyer beware.
Dan The Man wrote on October 09, 2009
It'a amazing how the negativity flows with the Sony/BMG releases, it's up 130% before a release?? Do we Have some ol' gritty men here( bashing the company for not doing the job)? Do we have some men here(living in the past...No offence but..,) My opinion of all this is: Elvis is a number in sony's array of artists(Here is my point: TO US HE'S BIG, BUT NOT IN JOE PUBLIC). Point is: His Great, Nothing like him,... But there's others!!! Always E !!!
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on October 09, 2009
True & joe public have many releases to choose from, but the constant flood of releases just confuses joe public, count the bealtes releases and then count the Elvis ones,i bet you cant even begin to keep track with what Elvis cd's are released every month or so!
FLY-TROUBLE! wrote on October 10, 2009
$60 for the same old songs, hahahaha! Enjoy the cover!:)
drjohncarpenter0117 wrote on October 10, 2009
Hush there FLY-TROUBLE...........at the end of the day save your money for what you really think is worth buying and leave items like this to FANS and joe-public to buy.Understand you may be frustrated with the way Elvis material is the same stuff in different covers but nothing is ever going to change the way ERNST and co release material.I have over the years be amazed at the way other artists are dealt with by there record companies in a positive way and some releases have made me wish these people were running the Elvis side of things.....but we have to realize as long as they get away it (BMG) will always use the same tracks....upgraded,remastered what ever they want to call it, since Elvis first signed with RCA the policy is to sell, sell, sell and not cater for the fans?.Since Elvis's death again we have had some good box sets and some ways BMG have tried to cater for the fans with FTD? but i believe we will never really get what we want from them in the way of top notch unreleased material. So ANNIVERSARY box sets like this one is another package in the 'have got a million times' bracket...but let's wait and see what's on there and then decide if we want to spend our hard earned money.Have trired to get details from BMG but final track listings has not been confirmed???
theoldscudder wrote on October 10, 2009
I'll but this only if contains 75 unreleased tracks. Why would I want a rehash of songs I already have?
TBG wrote on October 12, 2009
Reading all the opinons reminds me of a movie I once saw, called "Cranky old men" ;-) I think it's great that Sony is commemorating Elvis' 75th with a release. If they haven't done that fans would have complained as well. The cover is great!! Well-known picture, but let's face it - this is what the general public associates with Elvis! If there are some unreleased stuff on it that is great. But there's not so much unreleased stuff available anymore. I am tired of all the Alternate Takes that's been released lately, the original version is usually the best version anyway. And I am even more tired of bad-sounding soundboards. I'd rather have a collection of remastered songs with improved sound that you actually can HEAR has been improved :-) I bought "30 No1's" and "2nd to none" because of the improved sound - great releases.
Zoltan84 wrote on October 12, 2009
Not all soundboards are bad sounding. Some of them sound much better than official multi-track live recordings (MSG,Aloha,EIC). Compare the original "Aloha from Hawaii" LP (or early 90's CD version) to bootleg soundboards like "Old Times They Are Not Forgotten","Let Me Take You Home","Still Rocking The Nation" or "Bringing The House Down" and you'll know what i'm talking about. The same goes for the alternate takes. A few of them are better than the so called master takes. Both in sound quality and arrangement.

Another hits comp? I don't have any need for it, but it's not aimed at me. Track listing is very good for the most part. Somebody's fave song left off? Of course. Everybody has their faves. Songs included that you wouldn't choose. Of course. Everybody has songs they don't care for. Want the perfect comp? Make your own. FYI: I like "This Is My Heaven."

I agree with you Dixieland Rock: enough with the whinning. I don't get the kind of remarks like Fly- Trouble wrote. Nothing new? What did you expect for a main market release? And to say things like "the same old junk" is really annoying. Hey, it is not junk, it's a compilation of almost all the best things Elvis recorded. And it's not aimed at collectors like us but for the mainstream to commemorate his 75th birthday. Nobody is forced to buy it. For us FTD exists and keeps on releasing the ultimate complete sessions as they come out. I feel Roger and Ernst are doing a terrific job and also following Sony's marketing plan, they provide special products for the rest of the world who might dig Elvis or discover him for the first time. And for those who tear up their shirt because Adam and Elvil is on this box-set, go take a walk and listen to whatever you like but don't despise a song, or a box-set just because you don't like it. Do I have to say clearly that Elvis is after all a dead artist and remain alive in the public mind by a periodical release of things like Elvis 75.
