CD:UK #1 Prediction

January 29, 2005 | Music
The UK chart show CD:UK listed Elvis' single "It's Now Or Never" at #1. This is a good indication, but the real chart is compiled on Sunday, including the Saturday sales. Last week "Ciara" sold enough copies on the last day to keep Elvis from the #1 spot. The #3 single is a chartity single in aid of the Tsunamy disaster, so that could easily top the charts too. The clock stops Saturday at midnight, the chart info is downloaded from the shops between midnight and 4am. The final charts are produced on Sunday at 13.30 hours and distributed to the BBC, record companies, HMV and Virgin record shops.

# 1 Elvis - It's Now Or Never
# 2 Ashanti - Only You
# 3 One World Project - Grief Never Grows Old
# 4 Ciara - Goodies

I just hope it's now or never makes it to the top.It is such a great performance by Elvis and a milestone in his career, because a lot of new people got to know Elvis afther this in the 60's.He was no longer only that r&& roll singer but a major force in music that could sing it all.

roy: For AFSAI Top of the flops showd a nice shot of the single cover and played a few sconds of the song, that was before the number one. Dom Jollys new show played American Trilogy over the end credits, just thought yall might like to know.

Thanks for that rob at least the public did not have to put up with mario this week well i hope if elvis is #1 with its now or never, the bbc and epe will have resolved their issues and shows us some footage instead hey but dont hold your breath!
Lex wrote on January 29, 2005
Even what if It's Now Or Never gets to #1 and EPE and BBC resolve their problems?? As far as I can recall the only version of Elvis singing it is from 1977... brrrr... that wouldn't be very good for his image, maybe even worse than an imposter.

Lex I love the 76 - 77 era of Elvis Presley. It shows a very ill man yet yet his amazing talent not effected. We all grow old and most of us get ill so if seeing Elvis in his bad health blasting out a great song in fantastic style would put the people of Britain off buying his music then what a very sad shallow society we live in .

We need people to buy the Elvis single today. Buy, buy buy! We need a massive buying spree this last day to ensure an Elvis no. 1. Don't assume Elvis will go no. 1. Keep buying the single. Do not get complacent. Buy buy buy.
Lex wrote on January 29, 2005
Rob, I'm a fan too... and even I can't appreciate most of what the man did in the last couple of his years. Calling his attempts "in fantic style" goes way too far for sure. It will make others ridicule him again, no good advertisement imho.

Elvis gives a good performance of Its Now or Never in the 77CBS Special. Only spoiled by the awful intro by Sherrill Neilsen.

To get a song to the top of the charts people have to be able to buy it. There have been no copies of 'It's Now Or Never' in the West Country since 8.30 on Monday morning, so it will be a miracle if this gets to number one. There are of course large stocks of every other record in the shops, only Elvis is missing. Elvis must be losing thousands of sales because of this. Don't forget he only needed slightly over a thousand more sales last week & he would have had a 3rd number one. Despite all the messages from RCA etc extra stocks to buy are STILL NOT THERE.

Dear Jim Semple, the duet O sole mio/ it's now or never was not only wonderful but Elvis was mayby "THE FIRST" to mix classic and pop. Shaun Nielsen was last december our special guest with his wife Brenda they did a great show and I really look foreward hoping to see them again. Elvis Memories Belgium

Lex im not just being a blind obssesed fan when i talk highly of the 76-77 performances. I really love the likes of Trying to get to you and Early morning Rain and that Hounddog where hes go's a bit nuts in the middle of it. I think its all just brilliant stuff. I do see what you are geting at though, it is a very image concious society we live in if your not half naked with a perfect body ( suits Beyonce well tho) then forget about how great the singing is, it wont impress this shallow culture. Theyr are Elvis songs and performances i dont like , a few examples bieng , "Fool", "Ask Me", "Padre", well my point is I do have my preferances in the Elvis repertoire and 1977 I just love, so much passion put into the performances.
Jim Semple wrote on January 29, 2005
Sorry, we'll agree to disagree. Its a million miles away from the 1960 version in quality. Elvis sings well tho, but Im sorry Sherril ruins it for me.
RobIreland wrote on January 29, 2005
Jim I agree with you, shriell for me is not my choice of a good vocalist, pity Elvis thought he was.

I smell something fishy Baldrick!! Managed to get my 'pre-ordered copy' of 'Its Now or never' in Romford on Monday - but not one of the 3 record shops here (HMV, Virgin & Woolworths) have had any on display all week. All have told me they have sold out their allocation straight away. Today (the day after the announcement that singles from now on would be in unlimited supply) each shop has had copys. Not only that, but ALL of the copies on display were numbered. Now to me this means one thing. These copies have been sitting out the back since Monday morning whilst the managers/staff awaited a huge offer from a collector or ebayer - or to sell themselves on ebay. Now these copies are worth little more than their selling price, they've been brought out and stuck on the shelves. Hopefully from now on, we'll see more copies on the shelves...but please folks, keep getting them in that first week if we can.

sad if this doesnt go to 1 . romford was there july last year swinging place on sat night .
ranger wrote on January 30, 2005
Not only fishy, Baldrick, but with fins, scales, a fishy smell, and an MA in being fishy. I think that these 'numbered' (and therefore initial) copies aren't on the shelf in the first week in order to deliberately weaken the chance of a No.1 on Sunday. therefore avoiding the TOTP fiasco of Jailhouse Rock and One Night. It suits everyone involved, and though most people will get their copies, like my copy of AFSAI last week, that will be nine days after the release date. when the single is about to go down the chart. Also remember it's up against a charity single, and the record industry LOVE charity singles; it's good for the image. (I'm not sure about the ebay theory, cockney bill). I've got great sympathy with you Bernard (in the West Country). Although I'm quite close to London, because of family commitments this week, my search has really only been conducted around Walthamstow, and I still do not have a copy of INON on CD; and I haven't even seen one. Also, no one I've spoken to has even heard of the so-called 'extra copies'. If I still haven't got INON and Are You Lonesome Tonight by next Wednesday, my plan is to take a day's leave, get a Red Bus Rover (remember them Cockney Bill) and travel on every London bus until I find them. and I think that Elvis lost something after joining the Army!

This Lex character says he's a fan of Elvis but doesn't rate the last couple of years of Elvis' career. This so-called fan as, on other Elvis sites, referred to Elvis now as nothing more than a bag of bones. As this is an Elvis fan? And he can't deny saying it as I've read what he's said. Pathetic.
cockney_bill wrote on January 30, 2005
Yes, they got it wrong last week - but The Sunday People today has Elvis down as Number One
cockney_bill wrote on January 30, 2005
ranger - I haven't been on a bus for years now that I have one of these ozone polluting car things! I'm pretty sure the situation will be improved next week. From a purely selfish point of view I hope that my pre-ordered copy from Romford will be 'numbered', but I reckon we will be seeing more copies on the shelves. As I said, Virgin in Romford mysteriously had 6 copies appear yesterday afternoon (if you like I'll pop down and see if they have any left?) so its def getting better. I do think that once word gets out that there will be unlimited stock, then the ebay situation will calm down to a trickle.

The official Virgin singles chart (the one that first broke the news to us last week that Elvis 'only' made Number 2) has Its Now or Never at NUMBER ONE this week.
Son Of Mark 64 wrote on January 30, 2005
In agreement with Jim Elvis's 1977 version of Its Now Or Never is fantastic to hear could do with out intro but Elvis loved to hear sherrill sing even if I dont and I guess he was in charge, If he reaches no 1 play this on TOTP
Lex wrote on January 30, 2005
King of WB, you are completely right! I am no fan at all, I can't be since I'm obviously too realistic...
davrid wrote on January 30, 2005
To question whether Lex is a fan is ridiculous - Elvis is one of corner stones of Lex's life -together with his family, job etc. One doesn't need to agree with his views but these should be respected as an objective assessment of someone with considerable knowledge of the subject. BTW Lex knows Elvis isn't 'a bag of bones' as he's been embalmed...Elvis not Lex, but then who knows ;) I would agree the last thing we need is an hysterically over the top Elvis belting out Its Now Or Never from 76-77, especially with Sherrill/Shaun Nielsen doing the 'Italian part'!!
RobIreland wrote on January 31, 2005
davrid you would agree because you are Lex, hahahaha funny tho sticking up for yourself like that.
davrid wrote on January 31, 2005
No, I'm not Lex. Lex is Dutch and I'm British...
Lex wrote on January 31, 2005
Davrid, maybe we are schrizophrenic without even knowing it? Must be a very rare case, with both personalities living in different countries :-) Of course I know E is embalmed, but still I could have said it... sounds like me, although I can't recall it.
