The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore

April 01, 2000 | Other
Another new import label, AFD-records, was announced to have gotten hold of a special rehearsal tape from 1972, January 22, containing four completely new Elvis-songs. The new tracks were the title track "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore", "Delta Lady", "I'm Leaving It Up To You" and "The Last Time I Saw Her Face".

Tracklisting:

The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore (#1) - The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore (#2) - It's Over - An American Trilogy (#1) - An American Trilogy (#2) - You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' - Delta Lady - The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore (#3) - Amazing Grace - It's Only Love - You Gave Me A Mountain - I'll Remember You - Never Been To Spain - Proud Mary - Lawdy, Miss Clawdy - Until It's Time For You To Go - You Gave Me A Mountain - I'm Leaving It Up To You - The Last Time I Saw Her Face - A Thing Called Love (total playing time: 63'24)

Rumours of Elvis rehearsing these songs have been around for a long time, and finally they should have been released today. But for those who didn't notice yet, today is: APRIL
FOOLS DAY

Well, fools rush in, and a lot did. Probably we would have done ourselves, because we also are really eager to get these tracks finally. So we do understand some not so friendly reactions we saw on several newsgroups, but we know Elvis fans are always in for a good joke, and after the tears are gone, you'll have to admit it wasn't a bad one. We were told that some dealers really got a lot of orders for this CD, and we hope they don't have hard feelings either.

The first reactions on the news were triumphant, finally...

I've just seen an add for a CD containing '72 rehearsals ...
Any info? if it's true, then BIG WOW!!!

Apparently it's true ...

it certainly calls for a big WOW, but let's not get crazy yet, we've been let down before and will be again.

Some suspicion arose...

Has anyone else but me noticed that the letters AFD in the AFD Label stands for April Fools' Day? Or is it just coincidence?

If it's a joke, then it's a pretty cruel one.

Even we got informed about our wrong news...

The new label "AFD - Records" that is supposed to release the January 22, 1972 rehearsal might be playing a joke on us... In fact, this whole thing might just be nothing more than a silly joke... AFD, you see, also stands for April Fool's Day...

I've been told that this new cd is just an April Fool's Day joke, thus the "AFD" label

Various reactions after finding out...

Excellent! I thought that the new "Elvis rehearse Las Vegas" CD thing was brilliant.

I had my doubts about this release...and of course you are right! God damn, fooled again, and it's only the 24th of march! :-)

I think you are right !! Ha,Ha,Ha, ......... I could cry............

Whoever was the smart ass who decided this would be a funny AFD joke it's not. Your real funny getting peoples hopes up

One person really did some detective work, and found our "source"...

I thought I would look up the info in the Guralnick/ Jorgensen book Day By Day. Funny thing is the picture used for the cover of the rumored import cd is actually shown on the opposite page! Page 303 does mention all 4 songs and on page 302 we see the picture with some others Elvis was trying on. The point is if this is a hoax, someone put a little time into it. So far all we have is a tracklisting made up of the songs listed in the book along with the picture also in the book.

This overview shows the reactions were diverse and the - in our opinion - obvious hints lost of the lust for such a CD in the beginning. Of course a practical joke like this would not have been possible without some back-up, so we like to thank Elvis Presley Superstar for that.

If you don't want to be fooled again next year: Read Day by Day.
