Elvis’ Christmas Album

By ElvisNews.com/ Lex, December 23, 2014 | Music

At least FTD released a real classic album in these series this time.

Design

The design is as usual, lots of info, nice memorabilia and pics in the booklet, that has the other classic front (LPM-1951 with blue velvet shirt). The pictures are mainly publicity shots for Jailhouse Rock, unfortunately they used a lot of white for some reason, probably to have the shots in the right proportion. Anyway, it gives a strange result…

Content

I guess everyone knows the content by heart. The bonus songs are weird, to say the least. The only new stuff are some binaural takes. Hopefully we do not get them again on the classic album release of the Peace in the Valley EP.

Conclusion

A real classic album nice for in the collection, but it didn’t make me dance through the house.

I doubt Peace In The Valley will get the "classic" treatment. The same for any E.P.'s that were originally incorporated into albums.

Some people do not recognize sarcasm when they stumble over it ;)

I suspected it was - I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. Moreover, there are people who actually DO believe the E.P.'s will all become FTDs.

Beautifull reproduction of the original cover with the rca and nipper logo, the "new" backcover is also very nice. The booklet cover with the LPM 1951 lp cover is a good idea, inside the booklet we have all the photos from the original deluxe lp, of course these pictures are from the jailhouse rock movie (that are a little inappropiate for a christmas release) and others memorabilia. The sound is amazing ! a real classic album that deserves the FTD treatment. The only negative criticism is that on the screen of my car radio the song titles do not fit because they are not set on the cd, all the major labels do. i give a 4.5/5. Thanks FTD team.

You're playing this on....YOUR CAR RADIO!!!!!!

I meant my car cd player of course

Burn a spare to use in the car - keep the original safely in your house. Car players can easily scratch CDs.

Great release with top notch sound. Sometimes the booklets come up short. But this one is great. Back in '57 when I first got the original LP as a Christmas gift I didn't know the pictures were from JHR. They were just great pictures. Still are. If we get the binrarual(sp) gospel outtakes again on a 'Classic' release of the "Peace In The Valley" EP, so be it. Wouldn't be the first time I bought the same material ore than once.

Surely you don't REALLY believe PITV will get an FTD release?

Who knows. We've had a number of releases through the years that few expected. I did say "IF."

The lackluster booklet and weak liner notes leave much to be desired.

Lackluster booklet and weak liner notes? You and I must have purchased different releases.

JerryNodak, read Piers Beagley's informative (and spot on) review from the ElvisInformationNetwork website. Things could've been (and should've been) done so much better on this FTD release. I'm glad I didn't spend my money on it.

I've read it. I respect Piers's opinion. But opinions are just that...opinions. And I don't agree with his. I'm fine with the '57 Christmas Album, FTD style, as is.
