YouTube Begins Removing Illegal Elvis Footage

January 21, 2007 | Other
When Elvis Presley Enterprises announced their plans to officially use YouTube to exploit the "Presley brand", expectations were that it wouldn't be long before illegal footage would be removed.

So far only the "On Tour Outtakes" footage and 'That's The Way It Is' material has been removed. The notification says, "This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner Warner Bros Inc. because its content was used without permission".

So far EPE has only posted three videos at their 'Elvis Central' with already released material.

Luckily I downloaded all the videos I wanted from YouTube, because this was bound to happen; and of course, nothing is offered instead, no opening-up-a-website-so-people-can-download-them-legally-for-a-very-small-fee ...what a smart move!! They will still circle the internet, just now harder to find because they propably will be on more underground sites

I hope this is done by Warner Brothers, not by Elvis Presley Enterprises, because I think EPE want's a hit on Youtube, and they already have hits on there. For example My Way and If I Can Dreame have more than 120,000 viewers, Dont' Be Cruel music video has more than 230,000 and many others have almost 100,000. So, EPE, don't be cruel and stupid, money isn't everything. If you only think money, what is going to happen to the King who is the reason why you get money? Without him...

One TTWII video - yet hasn't been removed - has 130,000 viewers. Yep, it's a hit.

Mmmm... when I search for "Elvis On Tour" I still get plenty footage. I think it has nothing to do with EPE's channel. Those copyright owners do a run down every now and then...

The problem is - why not permitting to download the video THEY don't will to give us? This is ridicilous! Just release akk you have in the vaults, Warner Bros and you ain't gonna have trouble with people trying to download what they don't have the possibility to obtain legally!

EAP3577 ....... there are sitres out there that will tell you how to save clips on your hard drive from youtube. I would send one to you,,,,,,, but they Elvisnews doesnt allow us to post links here. Do some searching online, and youll find one easy.
elvis-finland wrote on January 21, 2007
Why you can't post the link here? You need FLV Player to watch those clips, 100% legal software.

The problem is that EPE has ONLY 3 Elvis' clips in his "Elvis central"... 3clips.... Oh, what a mess!!!!

I can understand this, BUT please EPE don't remove the 8 mm 'fan footages' on YouTube these are real treasures!!

Terrible ! I've been a fan for years and thanks to You Tube I saw some fantastic footage that I'd never seen before. Is there any good news in the Elvis world these days ?!?!.
Viva wrote on January 22, 2007
They are just so predictable aren't they? EPE will use you-tube as a place to post tacky advertisements for their endless stream of tat, and promote their distorted and grossly inaccurate view of Elvis. They have no interest in using it to give fans anything, they just want to get their foot in the door of another area in which they can exercise their over zealous quest to have complete censorship on all things Elvis. They are control freaks, nothing more.

Why blame EPE? They don't own the copyright to the film, so couldn't have insisted on its removal. Try venting your disapproval on Time Warner but rightly or wrongly they have a legal duty to protect their assets - failure to do so is an offence in the UK and US for failing to act in the best interests of its shareholders. The guys posting the material are also breaking the law. Would you approve if someone abused your assets by taking your car without your permission or squatted in your home?

I'll be dead before they release On Tour properly and entirely. Even though I was there when they filmed it and there when it came out in theatres

"now harder to find because they propably will be on more underground sites" - I am surprised how few who still are unaware of the fileshare programs out there. The web (in the strict sense of the word) never was, never will be a good place to find "Illegal" material. Connect to the Gnutella 1&2 networks or eDonkey and you'll find all that YouTube-stuff, and more, plus every DVD that's ever been released - in source quality, not some crappy compressed-to-death YouTube flashplayer. Check out for example Shareaza, who are one of many simple to use clients.

EPE never really noticed that Elvis Presley only survived this long because of the fantastic Job that ALL the Imported Labels records done, over the Years! Monkey business ass usual!

EPE is to busy to promote the Elvis talking head.

"EPE never really noticed that Elvis Presley only survived this long because of the fantastic Job that ALL the Imported Labels records done, over the Years!" What complete and utter nonsense. Of all the buyers of Elvis music, memorabilia, books, Graceland tours etc, a tiny proportion would ever have purchased bootleg material. Elvis has survived, ad become an everyday touchpoint in so many people's lives for one reason only - Elvis himself.

I do not know whether my suggestions confront with rule number 8 of ElvisNews Input Guidelines, I hope not, if it does - I just ask the moderators not to remove my account. BTW is there any idea whether it could be possible that Turner people themselves sold these copies of their Presley tapes to somebody to spread them via bootleg labels to make an extra buck and then release them officially in another 5 years? Then removing all this video could make sense - this could be a way to protect pirates... Maybe this doesn't make sense, but why on earth did these tapes emrger the year before last and not earlier? The 68 comeback special outtakes circulated among Presley fans for some time prior it's official release, I was thinking whether the people behind NBC tapes could have been involved in those pirated copies.

Don´t worry folks. EPE, Warner or whatever is the company removing the illegal footage, will not be succeeded. There are plenty of users posting Elvis stuff everyday and I would say it is impossible to remove all these goodies.

i think this is all wrong. this was the right opportunnitie to promot our man arond the world. When i've been looking to the age of the people who where watching clips from the 60's comeback or the on tour out takes, i was very surprised to see that the average age was around 20 and even much younger(14) This was one of the great ways to get the younger generation knowing elvis and it was really happening. So again its all about money...no respect for the king at EPE... with love form belgium..TCB

A lot of the footage can be seen on other elvis sites like elvisfun.com. That's the great thing about YouTube, you can embed a link in your own site and share it with the world. To me it's a mystery why they try to remove "illegal" stuff. It shouldn't be illegal anyway, they (epe) should be proud that fans take the efford to make this small films and footages of our hero.
