Wild In The Country 2006

Are we really that stupid as Elvis fans? We get a new cover, the same old material and we just keeping buying. I think it's about time we had quality not quantity and I am fully aware that the Elvis catalogue is running dry before the argument is made. There just doesn't seem to be any inspiration in any recent Elvis releases. It would have been nice to have included the "Lonely Man" segment in this movie, perhaps sound in 5.1 or even better a DTS mix and a high-definition transfer. What about a "making of" documentary with out-takes, surely there must be some. Nope, we will just get the same DVD that came out in 2002.

I thought "I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell" was a great movie song for the movie "Wild In The Country". I'll never understand why the decision was made when making that movie to ruin that song by sticking Elvis behind the steering wheel of a car to sing it. Add to that, the Jordanaires are there but are invisible through the song. It looks so silly. They needed someone like a Steve Binder calling the shots on those movies especially during the music portions of the movies. "I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell" would have looked better if they had put Elvis on a stage to sing it. To the powers that be that ruined those great movie songs, "They Goofed, They Bumbled, They Failed".

Yes, 20th Century Fox have missed the opportunity of giving us the "Lonely Man" sequence as a deleted scene. Not sure about 5.1 or DTS sound as it was probably recorded in a mono mix.

True Emjel that this movie was recorded as a mono mix. They can still master these in 5.1 however. The 30#1's album was released as a DVD in 5.1 and that included a bunch of mono mixes. The Elvis Paramount movies including King Creole, released on DVD in 2000 is 5.1. My point though was just to say that more effort should be put in these releases, not just spew the same stuff out time after time.

PJones - Yes, they can remaster anything these days, a bit like when they introduced electronic stereo etc. But at the end of the day 5.1 is there to pick up seperated sound sources, and all that's going to happen is you get the same sound signal coming out of more speakers. However, I do agree with you wholeheratedly that they need to look a little deeperwhen re-releasing these items if this is all that is going to be available as so called bonuses. The Love Me Tender release seems to be a big improvement over the original, and let's hope that as nothing has been definitely confirmed with this release & Flaming Star that there may be some good bonuses coming up. I'm not holding my breath though. Maybe we should email Fox and tell them what they might have in their vaults. One question - are these the R1 equivalents of the 3 re-releases that were rcently done for the UK?
