Vote For 'Elvis On Tour' On DVD

August 11, 2009 | Video

With perfect timing for Elvis Week the Turner Classic Movies website has a list of popular films (not available on dvd) that you can vote for to be produced on DVD. Today 'Elvis on Tour' is on the list at only #82.

1958's 'This Angry Age' staring Anthony Perkins is at number one but with only 6448 votes, Bogart's classic 'The African Queen' is at #2. 'Elvis On Tour' has 1281 votes so far.

If everyone who visits the popular Elvis news sites who publish this message bring out their vote - we can take 'Elvis On Tour' to the top of the list in one day! Show MGM that Elvis fans care and really do want to see 'Elvis On Tour' finally released.

My vote is in. Let's put the same level of support into this as we all did when we thought we were losing the ElvisNews website. Most of the films on that list are fairly obscure and there really only are a couple of glaring omissions (African Queen, Walet Mitty!!!!!, Samson & Delilah). I can't understand why something as high profile as Elvis Presley's last theatrically released movie hasn't made it to DVD. I mean Harum Scarum has!!! Must be a music rights issue.

I just cast my vote as well. The fact that 'Elvis On Tour' hasn't been released on DVD while a.o. 'Harum Scarum' has, simply defies logic! The same thing happens with CD releases. Even legends like Johnny Cash have quite a few albums that remain unreleased on CD, while every other month is seems there is another official 'Greatest Hits' or 'Essential' or 'Best Of' etc CD released with roughly the same songs over and over again. Does it make any sense? At least we Elvis fans have FTD releases to look forward to...

Just placed my vote (0700, 12 Aug). ELVIS On Tour is at "77" now. Apparently, you can only vote once, but we should all Keep Voting!

I've voted for this title on the TCM Site ages ago. Of course I will give it a try again. In fact, although you can only vote once, one can register his/her friends (all you need is their email address) and vote on their name if you like. That's what I did and will do again!!

I absolutely adore EOT and of course I would want it on DVD. But really, what difference would it make if we vote or not. There have always been a demand for a release among the Elvis fans, so I don´t think it matter if we vote or not. They have the same thing on facebook, and there have been a lot of people who did vote there. I´m not sure really. But I will vote, no question about it

This list of films not on DVD must only apply to the States as we've already had things like 'The Good Die Young' and 'Blackboard Jungle' on DVD in Europe. Anyway, I've voted for EOT - not that it'll do any good. How many of these polls will there be? This is the third or fourth I've looked at. I watched EOT on TCM this week - it's shown on there more often than I would watch it on DVD.

cast mine too. now I'll post this link to my facebook. if everyone here reports his vote, we'll break a posting record even here ;-) but we better don't, as nobody wants elvisnews being offline caused by frenetic posters...

It's a shame we have to vote for a Golden Globe Award-winning piece of music history to be released. We have to beg so they can cash in? NBC and Aloha box still re-enter charts every now and then until today showing Elvis is still in the league and it's not just a favour to release an Elvis movie. Elvis still means cash. So why begging for it? In a time when they release hundreds of porn and trash movies in HD on Blu-ray on a daily basis without stupid votes. What has become of this world? But, damn, I've voted anyway lol.

You're right Lex. I noticed that myself when I voted multiple time using different email addresses. Makes me wonder how effective this voting will be. Still, if ever TCM take the hint I do hope they will not release a poor VHS copy of the original version, just to shut us up. Much as I would love a remastered copy of the original film, what we want is a 2 or 3-disc Special Edition of all complete shows and available material, in the same vein as the excellent 3-Disc Special Edition of The '68 Comeback. Hello TCM! Are you there?

It appears there are 1718 currently visiting this website - let's hope that they haven't all voted yet. But I see there are 6000+ members, so that should push the numbers up slightly.

Just a fun fact: Anthony Perkins (of 'This Angry Age') was a big Elvis fan who named his son after him (= Elvis Perkins, also a musician). Still, would be nice to see EOT at #1.

So does anyone know how high a film has to get before it will be considered for a DVD release?

Have voted for this but to be honest if it comes out officially because of the amount of votes i will be very surprised, what a great opportunity for them to put together a great dvd release of EOT.......after all we have waited for long enough for this to happen?.Still i guess i will have to keep watching my copy until a official one becomes available.

There is no excuse. All and any existing footage of Elvis Presley must be made available officially (not talking Tunzi here) on DVD. What kind of audience for this will exist 10-20 years from now? It must be made available NOW for us to enjoy and for the companies to profit from it. This is ridiculous. Elvis is very poorly represented on DVD.

I voted three times (different e-mail addresses) yet the total has gone down two!
roytcbintheuk wrote on August 13, 2009
Vote now, another 1000 votes and EOT will be in the top 50, 75 thousand people visited Memphis on the 25th anniversary we just need 5000 of those people to vote to get it to the number 1 spot, the more support it gets the quicker it will be released don't forget these film companies need some sort of guarantee that they will get a return I think they will release it eventually we just have to be patient. I just hope it will be worth wait with all the extra footage in 5.1 surround and if TCM you are reading this you could market this as the first Bluray Elvis concert.
Steve V wrote on August 17, 2009
Its up to #62 today although I dont know what that means in terms of getting it a DVD release.
Bestoftherest8301 wrote on August 18, 2009
Seems to be either some apathy about voting for this, or somehow the voting system is not reflecting the actual number of votes cast. I can't believe that EOT has only received around 1410 votes. There has been a fair amount of reporting on this vote on the various EP sites and blogs, but nevertheless in the last 5 days I have seen the vote only increase by about 60 -70 votes. There are an awful lot of films above EOT that I have never heard of. I think I'll vote again and see if I can move Naughty Marietta (1935) up the list.

As an Elvis fan I voted for "On Tour." But as a movie fan I saw at least a dozen titles on that list of 200 that I'd rather have on DVD first.

Dont worry jerry those movies you like more will be out before On Tour!
