Vinyl Version Wooden Heart Delayed

February 09, 2005 | Music
In the UK the record store HMV has a huge sign up saying that there has been a problem with the vinyl version of the latest re-issue single "Wooden Heart". They are not yet sure when it will be available in the stores.

You can (pre-)order it on-line to make sure the sales are registered this week.

Here we go again, there is always something wrong. If you would not see the same thing every week,no stock in shops, you would not believe it. Do you know what i saw a lot on internet this week," Eminem hols Elvis away from the number 1 position". Why he could do it, you never see that it was because records where not in the shops. Now there is something wrong again. It never stops.

My local HMV didn't get their supply until today (Weds) but they did give me a ring to let me know it was in (which was nice!!). They said that the stock that was being pressed for them was faulty!

Perhaps the mispress plays the U2 song and will count as sales for their single!

I got mine this lunchtime from HMV Croydon, they also had copies of some of the earlier singles on cd.

Great comment ranger :-) I too, got my copy of 'Wooden Heart' 10" vinyl from HMV this afternoon. They also had a few of the earlier singles on CD. I picked up an un-numbered version of the 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' CD.

I have gave up on trying to get the vinyls. Will it hurt the sales of Wooden Heart if there having trouble with the vinyls ? I keep asking myself the same question Spinout. I have had no luck getting Wooden Heart this week so far. They will probably be put on the shelves next week

Isnt this getting ridiculous now. Its one problem after another. You dont need to be a genious to work out whats going on. To be honest though this singles release campaign was a very bad idea. What good has it done. You dont see any Frank Sinatra singles in the charts being re released but no one denies his importance and he is still as popular today. All this singles campaign has done is totally ruin any decent image Elvis still had with the general public and made him a laughing stock again. You should read some of the reviews of his singles and what about the TOTP fiasco. Wooden heart was a very poor single in 1961 let alone 2005.No fan can honestly dispute that.Well at least Surrender next week is top quality even if it will get slated by the press.

I now what you mean Mark. Ever since they released these damn singles Elvis has been getting bad press. I wish they never released these 18 #1s. Everywhere I read theres Elvis insults. I thought BMG would have got the trouble with the vinyls of Wooden Heart sorted by now. They told us about the problem ages ago.No matter how much I love Elvis Wooden Heart is not one of his better songs.Elvis is a laughing stock of the uk at the moment. I will be glad when the downloads from the internet are added to the charts. The comments from the press and non Elvis fans have really hurt me.And I know I should not take any notice but you just cannot seem to get away from it. No other entertainer gets bad press except Elvis. No one seems to say anything nice about him anymore

Thats all right Mark R I had to get this out of my system before my head exploded.I still dont like the thought of Wooden Heart getting to no 1 though. Its not the the press in the uk what are bothering me its what the non Elvis fans have been saying. But I am going to shut it all out and enjoy the success that Elvis is having in the charts. Thanks Todd and BMG for making this a great year for the Elvis fans.No singer could get this much attention if they had been dead for nearly 28yrs. Elvis lives on !

I have read some comments with regards to these releases being a bad idea. eg Wooden Heart not being up to scratch as a single release and making Elvis a laughing stock. While like everyone else I am frustrated with the fiasco of purchasing these releases I think it has been a fantastic promotion for Elvis's music. I don't think there is any other artist (including the Beatles) who could make such an impact on the charts with re-releases. I see this as a celebration of a versatile singer, and I think most people would agree that some thought has been put into the presentation, which has been sadly lacking in various other Elvis collections. Forget about the bad press or how meaningful or meaningless the chart positions are, or how dated some of the tracks may sound against todays music and just enjoy.

We're all very happy that Elvis is still doing so well so many years after he died. English fans have always been loyal and very supportive and we owe them a lot. But I don't think that these new rankings and sales should be remembered as new hits and added to Elvis' unique record in the UK charts. What matters is what he did when being alive. What happens today is just a new evidence of a miracle that's been lasting for over 50 years. Let's take it as a blessing and wonderful reward to those who have been on his side for so long and a vivid tribute to Elvis' contribution to the record industry. Let's face reality : tomorrow the Beatles will do just as well though they split some 35 years ago... We may dislike it but in the end this is only business and numbers... Your true place in history is related to how people remember you even after you've gone away. In that perpective Elvis and The Beatles occupy the same top seat of honour in England's popular music and english hearts. Both changed the way english people would listen to music and realte their lives to songs over the last 50 years. Elvis might have initiated it ("before Elvis there was nothing" John Lennon said) but The Beatles made it to the top for almost a decade. 27 top 10 hits on both sides that sounds fair... 18 more on Elvis' side and why not 27 more on The Beatles' side tomorrow won't change it.
