UK Singles Enter French Chart

March 02, 2005 | Music
On the French compilation album chart "Love Elvis" dropped twelve places to #37.

Strangely, all the Elvis UK singles but "His latest flame", enter the French Top 100 singles chart this week. These are imports since the singles have not been officially released in France and the only publicity surrounding these singles was Elvis hitting the 1000th. UK #1 single.

#85 "A Fool Such As I"
#86 "Its Now Or Never"
#87 "Jailhouse Rock"
#90 "One Night"
#91 "Are You Lonesome Tonight"
#92 "Surrender"
#94 "Wooden Heart".

"His latest flame" hasn't been released here yet, this explains why it's not in the charts. Only the seven singles + the box with "All shook up" are on the market. They were all released last week, and are widely available, even in the small town where I live. BTW, these are the numbered singles. The vinyls have been released too.

Hi ! The CD singles are currently sold for 2,77 euros each (box = 7,88 euros) on the french alapage website.

jean-michel: I pay them 3,99 Euros at the FNAC store (and more than 14 Euros for the box). Sigh. :-(((

Paul: did you check the site ? I think the special offer ends tomorrow thursday. The normal price for the cd singles is still less expensive than the Fnac price (shipping is free from 25 euros).I m in nice ; where r u ?

I don't think this is a wonderful effort at all. France has roughly the same population as the UK. To get into the top 90 is not wonderful it's wonderless.

hello again .As much as I happy to see those import singles also entering the charts in Ireland , Holland & now France (we can even find them cheaper than in England overhere) + now sold in Belgium (where they are prevented from charting) , Japan , Australia , the States & probably other countries : I cant help thinking that all those units sold abroad ,if added to the original english sales, could have given Elvis the number one spot in the UK charts when missed for a few hundred copies. Eddie : may I remind you that those singles that have just entered the french charts (7 at once ! To my memory that's unprecedented) are imports. Without any kind of promotion & even less airplay I guess we can call that a wonderful feat. Eagleone : France boasts with the 2nd largest FC, in terms of members, after Egland + the french all Elvis shop located in the center of Paris has now been open for almost 5 years .Yes , Elvis is still in demand overhere.

Jean Michel : you're right, for France and without promotion it's unbelievable. Eddie White : It's really not wonderless, because you don't know the market in France and how theses singles were release. We never can't compare France and The UK or USA. Musically, it's not the same culture. That's why it's an achievement, believe us.

Fabrice, I have learnt something new today about the States and the UK not being the same culture as France! Do tell me more about the music industry in France please. I am eager to learn from you.

Dear Eddie, then why to say that France has the same population as England, you speak about the number (so I learnt something me too) ? I speak about the opinion public and the roots of music. Elvis is considered in no way in the same way in France where in England. The French music has other roots that the English, these roots are very remote. Elvis is contrary to the fact that privilege French in music. Furthermore, Elvis is completely absent in French media.
