Hi Mississippi-Flash. Personal tastes differ and so it should be! I prefer country music myself and Jerry Reed is one of my favourites. So I go for Jerry's version, but nothing against Tom Jones. He was very good and had a style, something that's becoming obsolete these days.

Hi Marty, just listened to the Jerry Reed song...not bad. But I think Jerry's version is more country and Tom's is POP/ROCK AND ROLL!! So I prefer the Jones version.

By the way, the PROPER record's box sets are really nice always offering a detailed booklet and a quite cheap for what they give (four CD's and a booklet). I don't like to promote anyone and this "copywrite" law has floaded the market with a lot of totally worthless CD's. This box obviously has nothing new to offer to fans but at least these people (judging but other offerings I have bought) have put some effort producing it. Maybe I will buy it just for the booklet...

"Tupelo Mississippi Flash" is a song written and first recorded by Jerry Reed ("Guitar Man", "A Thing Called Love" & "Talk About The Good Times"). It is a comedy song in many ways and was of course inspired by Elvis's success. You can hear Elvis singing a few lines of the song (immitating Jerry Reed) while fooling around between takes at the 'Too Much Monkey Business" sessions (FTD - So High) with Jerry Reed present. It's a nice fun song and I really like it. Tom Jones made a cover of the song but I think Jerry Reed's version is far superior.

Although I agree Proper puts out only quality & the packaging will no doubt be top notch, I will not be buying this as it's just another repackaged set. Still nice to see Proper do a set on the King.

These people put out great sets, with superb notes. Check out their website - just search on Proper Records.

Can I have owner-rights on that title..??? The song 'The Tupelo Mississippi Flash' was made 'famous' by Tom Jones as a B-side of 'Daughter Of Darkness'. Since I am a fan of both Elvis and Tom 'The Tupelo Mississippi Flash' is my internet nickname.
