The Kings Of Christmas

October 19, 2010 | Music

Since Paul Simon we know that there are probably fifty ways to leave a lover. We certainly do know that there are even much more ways to make money by releasing Elvis' 1957 Christmas songs on budget cds again and again. The latest way was found by German-Dutch label "H'Art / Smith & Co." which will release the cd "Elvis Presley & Frank Sinatra - The Kings Of Christmas" on October 22, 2010. The album contains 24 well-known tracks, 12 of each artist, public domain songs only.

Give me a break! Elvis and Sinatra on one CD all about Christmas? Let's milk it for all it's worth. This is an insult.

I have a question and maybe someone can answer. Ok, these songs have become PD, no one has to pay royalies anymore (in Europe). But Elvis's name for example is a registered trademark. You cannot use it to sell your product. I cannon sell e.g wine bottles with Elvis name and picture on it, EPE with sue me! How can they sell CD's with Elvis's name (and usually but not in this case) and picture?

I like Sinatra a lot and he recorded many Christmas songs, but I've never considered him a "King" of Christmas. Bing Crosby, yes. But Frank Sinatra, no. Nevertheless, I see nothing wrong with pairing Elvis and Frank on a Christmas themed CD for the purpose of making money. Let the milking begin.

I play em all at Christmas, Sinatra, Dino, Bing and of course Elvis. Love Christmas songs! This CD is not an insult. Why would it be?

dgirl : agreed ! Not an insult indeed, but Bing Crosby would have been a better choise. Always El.
