The Fun In Acapulco Sessions

FTD will release a 3CD version of Fun In Acapulco, like they did with Viva Las Vegas last year.

This is the ultimate FUN IN ACAPULCO 3-CD set: includes more than an hour of previously unreleased false starts, break downs, and complete takes! All tracks have been recently remixed and mastered from the original 3-track session tapes. The slipcase replicates RCA Victor's vault-stored session reel box. The 28-page booklet includes rare photographs, memorabilia, session data, Movie Trivia and an updated overview of the movie by Alan Hanson. The 3-CDs are housed in a CD carrier adorned by original tape box documentation.

Very interesting observations Deano1 and Adams. The eventual difference between the voice used for Lawdy Miss Clawdy, and My Boy was staggeringly different and like a metamorphosis. Not to sound, like so many guys on youtube who seem to know more about him than I do my wife, he appeared driven by emotional involvement as demonstrated on all gospel productions, and the latter part of December 1976 (Ginger Aldren). which didn't apply at all on the film output in the years 1965 - 1967

There's no doubt I'll be buying this. It's a favorite of mine. I'll listen to it all the way through two or 3 times so that I know exactly what's there. Then I'll make a CD-R of the tracks
I want in the order I want them. The remainder will be forgotten.

Adams, I am so glad to hear someone else say what you did. I too always heard a big difference in his voice between "Fun In Acapulco" and "Kissin Cousins". You are correct, that you hear a very slight change in his voice starting with the May of 63 (Lost Album) sessions and perhaps another change on "Viva Las Vegas" (however still very strong and energetic) before a total change on the "Kissin Cousins" soundtrack. It seemed to rebound for the January of 64 recordings on songs like "It Hurts Me" and "Ask Me"; however it got progressively weaker from that point through the "Clambake" soundtrack. He still had some moments where he would cut lose and show some of that old energy and sparkle (sometimes on mediocre movie stuff such as "Long Legged Girl" and "Spinout"); but it definitely wasn't the sparkling, crystal clear voice that he had from 1960 to early to mid 1963. I think it was boredom with a lot of the material and karaoke recording techniques that contributed to the lack of vocal sparkle and at times flat sound of many of the Oct 63 to Feb 67 recordings. All of that to say, that "Fun In Acapulco" is a great soundtrack LP and is worthy of this release. I know a couple of songs are silly at best, but his commitment to excellence on this soundtrack really shines through. My fiance wasn't an Elvis fan when I met her 7 years ago, but she has become one and FIA is one of her favorite LP's.

~ I see that there are no MONO masters included in this 3-cd set or the Viva Las Vegas 3-cd set.
Maybe Ernst Jorgensen has plans for a 1960s MONO box set sometime in the future... ??

Thank you FTD! I've been wating for this release for years and now I'm really happy that it will be released soon. I've always thought the initial FTD release of FiA was at best fair or even mediocre because of its 1 CD format and lacking so many outtakes.
This is one of my favourite Elvis' soundtracks full of well-provided Latin flavour and full of joy. And last but not least FiA sessions were the last where Elvis had his outstanding crystal clear post-army voice. Starting with the next - Lost album - sessions you can notice slight changes in his voice, then more noticeable on VLV sessions and at last KC sessions when the changes in Elvis' voice are very evident.

Regarding the takes in order I'm not convinced it makes the listening unbearable, even being a fan, it would be nice to have each complete take on his track, it would avoid being forced to listen to 2 or 3 false starts before the complete take, the packaging and booklet seem interesting except the black frame around the original album but it's a detail ... the same principle could be adopted for sessions memphis '69, nashville '70 or '71 etc. my other wishes : why not the concerts from on tour (we have 1 in close up) why not in concert (we have spring tours and unchained melody) not very logical! however, this new FiA box looks good and for that thank you FTD

The continuation of the 7 inch series makes sence. The unreleased material could have been put together on a volume 2 version, as FTD did with GI Blues and Jailhouse Rock.

For me really great news. The FiA Soundtrack is different from all the others. Love the Latin Sound. And now we can get the complete session. First VLV and now FiA. Hope the sound will also be pristine. Go on FTD.

Jesus, what is the differents between this release and ttwii ??? It´s both unreleased material. And Ernst did say that we won´t get Eot and Elvis in concert as Ftd. I can understand the way by the second one but can´t understand it by the first one. It seems as if it is all about the rights in the music and Lisa´s thoughts about Elvis in concert.

These releases are great fun. Can´t get enough of them!

Jodak and Jesus, we have all the albums plus unreleased material. And the live CDs. It was from the beginning clear for me that someday there will be all original albums released with alternate takes and this unreleased. So what you say that there is no more material isn´t true. See the VLV and now the FiA soundtracks with the complete sessions. And in the next time we will get more complete sessions. Yes we can talk about it if we realy need this complete sessions. Not everybody but afaik a lot of collectors and fans will buy it for sure and me, too. Let me think about a ttwii complete session box: hallelujah !!!

I will buy this mostly for disc one. The original album. Just I did with VLV. I'm expecting the best sound quality to date. I will listen to discs 2 and 3 all the way through once. After that, only sparingly. Listen to the same song beginning with take one and running through take whatever is not something I enjoy, I don't care what the song is. But I know the hard core collectors wet their pants over that sort of thing. So, enjoy.

Talk about desperate. This is it. First "Viva Las Vegas" and now this? I trust people reading this web site aren't that stupid as to FTD's latest grab for the last God almighty "buck"; this is absolutely pathetic! They have nothing new to release and now here we go again. Good bye FTD.

One of my favourite soundtracks! I love the Mexican flavored music recorded by Elvis, Marty Robbins, Hank Snow and others. I wish Elvis had recorded more of this type of music. This FTD is a wish come true!

Yes, that is what I call news. One of my favourite Elvis soundtracks. Love it !!!
