On the Collectors Club Board EPE announced: "we are very happy to announce that Elvis Presley's "That's All Right" (single) has been certified Gold by the RIAA. It is also at #1 on the singles sales charts this week" (with 1636 sales).
Updated with reaction from Todd Morgan:
BMG, not EPE, did all the legwork to get sales data together and work with the RIAA. To certify "That's All Right" gold at long last. It has long deserved it, but so many of the sales were not properly documented way back when. We're very grateful and delighted. Awaiting an actual press release from BMG with details.

I would be VERY surprised if this single has gone gold in the U.S. That would mean it had shipped one million units in two weeks. Very unlikely, given how few copies most singles, even #1's, sell these days. It'd be cool, but I doubt it.

If the claim is true, I am sure the RIAA certification is for sales from 1954 onwards !

If we get any more of this excellent news we will be intoxicated:-) Roll on Monday, Elvis Presley's famous sneer will break into a broad smile! We could never in our wildest dreams imagine how he would feel about all this. We old Elvis fans, at the least, are totally totally vindicated.
