That Time Of The Year Again

May 12, 2004 | Other
It is that time of the year again, the rumors of Lisa Marie moving back into the Graceland Mansion - to save it from being closed down- popped up again. Even Jack Soden, president of Elvis Presley Enterprises, was quoted "She (Lisa Marie) says she'll live there herself - and still open part of the mansion to the public - rather than let her daddy's legacy die."

Of course these rumors are not true, and we asked Todd Morgan from EPE for a reaction:

"Not one word of truth to it. A tabloid fabrication. It seems that at least once a year since the 1980s there has been a new tabloid story saying Lisa is closing Graceland or moving in or something like that. This is just one more of those.

There was indeed a national downturn in tourism a few years ago, which had to do with the national economy and simply the natural ebb and flow of tourism. The downturn temporarily was made worse by 9/11. But, tourism nationally has been on a steady increase again. Visitorship to Graceland has been climbing very nicely.

The quotes from our CEO Jack Soden are either completely fabricated or possibly are an out-of-context amalgamation of quotes from when he was interviewed a few years ago about tourism decline issues. We've been getting enough inquiries about this current tabloid story that we're likely to post something in News on our site in the next day or two. Gee, we got almost halfway through 2004 before having to post our annual "it's not true" article about a "Lisa's closing and/or moving into Graceland" tabloid story."

It was fantabulous (a million times better than fantastic and a million times better than fabulous) to hear that Graceland would not be closing down. I've been twice in my life & would love a chance to go again. Thanks for the info.
