Sunday Magazine Day

June 07, 2020 | Other

This week the magazines started to appear again. The UK and Norway delivered together three of them. In order of appearance:

The Man and His Music

The Man And His Music

The 128th issue of this magazine was good enough to survive two 1976 shows ;-). Gordon Minto shines his light on the legacy of Elvis, entertaining and interesting like most of Gordon's pieces. There are interviews with Fran Jeffries (co star Harum Scarum) and John Wilkinson (unpublished before). Luthor Moore contributes with an article on the Camden 'classics'. Elvis' final benefit show (Jackson 1975) gets in the spotlight and Ernst Jorgensen recalls seeing Elvis in concert in Johnson City (1976). Of course all regulars like news, letters and reviews are present too.

Flaming Star

Flaming Star

From Norway is #102 of this eye candy magazine. Their Cashbox series continues with 1960. There's an article on Ann-Margret, never a punishment to see pictures of her. Next up is an article on Steve Sholes and Chet Atkins. The (in)famous "Elvis What Happened" gets a few pages and the main attraction is a huge article on King Creole with an encore in a some pages on New Orleans.

The OEPFC Magazine

The OEPFC Magazine

The May/June/July issue of the Official Elvis Presley Fanclub magazine arrived. It is remembering the recent Elvis-releated deaths, but also older ones like Chips Moman, Ed Parker and Red Robinson. The magazine also has a major article on the legacy (making Elvis Cool again). Both Change of Habit and Charro get some pages. Two articles from the hand of Todd Slaughter closes this edition: The One Voice (yes, that one) and on the 50th anniversary of TTWII.
