Summer Festival August 1972

July 28, 2005 | Music
The upcoming "live" FTD release, tentatively titled "Summer Festival", will be a soundboard recording of Elvis' August 11, 1972 with additional bonus tracks.

Ernst Jorgensen also added "we are working on about 6-8-studio albums and 3-4 soundtracks, obviously still waiting on finding the outtakes for several movies. At this time only "Summer Festival" is solid for October, but there will be at least one more - possibly two. Information not available until September 1st."

Update: apparently the CD "Blazing Into Darkness" is not August 11, as stated on the cover, but one day later, August 12, 1972.

I have my doubts also. Another soundboard...from not a very interesting gig in Las Vegas. Elvis was bored and besides I all ready have some bootlegs from August 1972.

I'm a little disappointed with this news as well...however, there is the chance that this will sound better than the bootleg! Also there's a chance they may pick another show instead. I'd much rather get an FTD issue of the Madison Square Garden LP, that's been in need of a remaster for some time now.

Axeman517, you took the words right out of my mouth. "MSG" is in desperate need of an upgrade, and FTD could do it right by going the "Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis" route. And if we're gonna dwell on '72 material, why not give the fans what they really want -- a "Standing Room Only/On Tour" deluxe edition??

i have a tape of the show from aug 18, 1972 (dinner show). i was there :)listening to it over 30 yrs later, i thought, what a great selection of songs. good voice. but nothing big happened during the show. it was a solid show, and i remember, elvis did look great. however, if you do have this tape, listen and you ll hear elvis say from the stage: i love you too, honey. why? because i had just yelled out I LOVE YOU ELVIS. :D so i m saying, summer 72 was nice enough for me! glad to have ftd put that period out on a decent product. ps-it would be nice to have SRO released! yes! i remember all the rumors about it back then. *** elvis rocks vegas, still!
