Songs Inspired By The Passion Of The Christ

March 04, 2004 | Music
Nashville-based Universal South Records is preparing the April 6 release of "Songs Inspired by The Passion of the Christ". Director Mel Gibson provided input on the CD compilation as a companion to his film, The Passion of the Christ. Assembled primarily from previously-released material, the collection will include tracks from Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Ricky Skaggs, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Elvis Presley ("Where No One Stands Alone"), Cranberries vocalist Dolores O'Riordan and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. Holly Williams, daughter of Hank Williams Jr., has contributed a version of her grandfather's "How Can You Refuse Him Now." The CD also features a song written for the movie by Jessi Colter, Waylon Jennings' widow. She performs "Please Carry Me Home" with their son, Shooter Jennings. Music video director Lian Lunson compiled the CD.

We removed all non Elvis related reactions. For discussions on religion there are much better places. All warnings received are withdrawn.

Before you accuse, criticize and abuse the movie --walk a mile to the nearest cinema and watch the film for yourself.. I've had the opportunity to see the movie in Perth, Australia on the 25th February 2004. In my opinion, this is without doubt -one of the Best & Greatest movie of all time. Knowing Elvis' well known tremendous love and passion for Christ, he would have enjoyed this superb powerful movie himself. "Where No One Stands Alone" is one of Elvis' greatest Gospel song and for it to be included in the Movie Soundtrack Companion CD - what a great honor and compliments to our dear Elvis Presley. Because of this new CD Compilation - Elvis' Gospel Music will again be introduced to the mass public. I hope "Where No One Stands Alone" will win another Grammy for Elvis. Only 12 days in the cinemas -The Passion has grossed more than 220 millions in USA alone making it one of the biggest blockbuster of all time - alongside great classics like The 10 Commandments & Ben Hur both of which are Elvis' favorite films. This will also trigger off great success for the forthcoming BMG's Elvis ULTIMATE GOSPEL cd set. It is sure going to be another mega best seller!!

This is cool. Mel Gibson recognizes the importance of Elvis Gospel music. He has suggested the Elvis Gospel song 'Where no one stands alone', for a nashville compilation of songs inspired by Christs message. One of my personal favorites.

Just read in the news, that the recordings inspired by the 'The Passion', is getting alot of pre-promtion publicity. Sounds great for a CD, that won't be out for 3 more weeks. Remember, Elvis's 'Where no one stands alone', is one of the featured recordings..

Great song, superbly sung by Elvis... but I have misgivings about using it in relation to a controversial movie. Let's hope the negativity surrounding the film doesn't effect the public reaction to the song.
