Site Of Elvis' Last Stadium Concert To Close

The Pontiac Silverdome is getting ready for its final bow this month. It's scheduled to close after a February 25th fundraising walk. The Silverdome has hosted many significant events, from Elvis' last stadium concert in 1975 to the 1982 Super Bowl. Pope John Paul the Second led a Mass there that drew 93-thousand people at the end of his 1987 U-S tour. Pontiac hasn't finalized plans about the future of the 132-acre site.

I'm as always fasinated as always with details from fellow friends of mine who had the good fortune to be at a elvis concert during his lifetime and the posts here make good reading. I never got to go as I was only a wee babe in arms, but if I had a time michine I take any concert anywhere no matter what year. T C B

Having been a resident of Oakland County in MI. for my entire life (and I am one of our Senior Members) I can say that each of my fellow Elvis Fans posts is accurate. Our Pontiac Silverdome was a good 'theatre' except for sports. It's accoustics are the worst! As for it being leveled, it is a simple economic need for Pontiac. It's a long story...but boils down to money. The way out is to use the valuable land the Silverdome sits on for another venue; it is very valuable land. I live in vegas now but I am from Livonia,MI. Yes, I also was there at Elvis' concert in the Silverdome New Years Eve.It was not the greatest for concerts but do you think I cared? Elvis was there...and that concert had a lot of Elvis splitting his pants. I have never been disappointed at his concerts..only been to 4 but they were great!!!

I grew up 12 miles from the Silverdome, in a town called Clarkston. i was there when they made plans to build it and while it went up. I saw many concerts there, and yes i was there newyears eve for Elvis. I have seen Elvis over thirty times live, and i must say the concert there was not one of his best. If you have never been there you must understand it was not realy very good for live concerts. Football or basketball it was fine. so what im saying is they have had a hard time for many years to make a go of it,and in my mind the best thing they can do is let it go to the wreking ball. As for Elvis when he was there it was the largest paying gate for one person as of 1975, over 80,000 people were there. The King lives always in my heart and in yours i hope.
