Rubberneckin' Record Of The Week/ Promo Cover

August 26, 2003 | Music
Unbelievable but true, Rubberneckin'is record of the week on BBC Radio 2. Surprising, since BBC 2 is more or less an easy listening station.

We found the cover of the European promo CD on "For Elvis Collectors Only".

I believe Terry Wogan on Radio 2 has the biggest audience of any radio network and a few of his Radio 2 colleagues aren't far behind him neither. Does anyone know if they are playing Rubberneckin on Radio 1 yet ??? I don't listen to the radio !

That's good news. Radio 2 isn't really an easy listening station any longer though. It plays a wide range of material, including pop and rock. I guess with Radio 1 becoming more strict about only play records they perceive to be cool to teens, Radio 2 has broadened the scope of what it plays.

TonyP is correct. BBC Radio2 has a wider music play list than years ago. They have always played Elvis material and played ALLC!Well done Radio2!

I tried to post this earlier today. In reply to the first two posts, it is MY fault that BBC Radio 2 was described as an "easy-listening" station, as I was the person who e-mailed in the original news-item. I only listen to some of their programmes and it would seem that I am out of touch with their current programming content. My apologies to Elvis News, its readers and to BBC Radio 2. However, I am still surprised, but delighted, at their choice ! Steve Morse, Steke-on-Trent

Sorry, but Tony is right. BBC Radio 2 is most certainly NOT an easy listening station any longer! It used to be, probably about 8 or so years ago, but now they play an amazingly wide selection of music - they even have specialised shows for reggae, ragga, americana etc. They broadcast the US Billboard Charts (Beyonce, Justin Timberlake etc) and the UK album charts. It's great that you keep your ear to the ground picking up bits of Elvis information everywhere - but sometimes I think you have to be careful about repeating things verbatim from message boards!! I think I'm right in saying that BBC Radio 2 has the highest ratings of any of the national radio stations in the UK. Although it is true that more youngsters listen to BBC Radio 1, so it would be great if some Radio 1 DJ could pick up on Rubberneckin' as Record of the Week!
