Rights To Presley's Last Remaining Song On eBay?

February 11, 2005 | Other
Here is a press release from Yahoo news for an eBay auction of "Elvis Presley's Last Remaining Song".

Graceland 'All Shook Up' Over Elvis Presley's Last Remaining Song Now Available on eBay.

Songwriter Paul Terry King co-author of such hits as "Love in the First Degree," sung by Alabama, and "Idabel," sung by Elvis, is auctioning his interest in the only known available Elvis song titled "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses."

Presley and King co-wrote the song in 1973 and performed it privately. It was the last song written by Elvis and King prior to Elvis's death that remains unreleased and unpublished.

On December 16, 2004, show-biz wheeler dealer Robert FX Sillerman, who built live entertainment powerhouse SFX, agreed to pay $100 million to Lisa Marie Presley for an 85% controlling stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises.

The deal gives Sillerman the rights to use Presley's name and likeness, as well as the royalties from the King's music, films and TV specials. He plans to aggressively market the Elvis brand worldwide through his new company CKX (NY Daily News 12/16/2004).

With Sillerman's acquisition of the Presley's estate, Sillerman let this song slip through the cracks; and as of now, retains a minority interest in the song, "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses."

Paul Terry King now holds the majority interest 50%, in the last known unpublished song of Elvis Presley's estate. (See BMI.com, record # 6562846)

Devoted fans, music enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and or entertainers can now bid and get copyright and performance rights to one of the most prized possessions of the King himself, his music. This opportunity will never be available to the public again.

eBay will monitor bids and the auction is offered through eBay's trading partner Mike Waters of Sidon Investments LLC. Bidding opened Thursday at $10,000 at 8:30PM MST. For additional information go to eBay item #4074240562.

A second of quick observation. Elvis never recorded a song called 'Idabel', and even if he had done so privately, such a song was never a hit by Elvis. Secondly, other than some tenuous linking to You'll Be Gone, when did Elvis ever write songs? 'It was the last song written by Elvis and King prior to Elvis's death that remains unreleased and unpublished' suggests that Elvis 'wrote' even more songs with this guy. Strikes me this is a load of old nonsense.....Actually, just tired a search on ebay and its been removed!

It is now back on Ebay. No recording exists, what you get is the song, supposedly written by Elvis and this guy....Supposedly the recording has been lost...

C'mon guys, don't shoot the piano player! If items like these, no matter how fake they are, are for sale on eBay (and have been reported on in the US news papers), I'd like to read that. I like to be kept posted on 'all ElvisNews'. It's a waste of money if you buy the rights - but certainly not a waste of time to read about it. What about the cup of water that was sold on eBay? That even made the Belgian news papers, days after I read it here first. Personally I don't care too much for spin-off books such as 'Such Vicious Minds" or "Kill him Tender" or what have you, and they are mentioned here too, but it's all part of the big Elvis-world & at least this site keeps us up to date. Show some gratitude. Or, as a friend of mine would say, take the lemon and make lemonade.

For me it´s a fake too! BUT: I think it is absolutely okay, that Elvis News gives us infos like that, because it would be not fair if the webmaster would decide "what is important and what is not worth to upload it" ! This page is called "Elvis News", so e v e r y news about the king should be mentioned here and if someone is not interested in this or that, than you have the choice NOT to read it?! Go on like that Elvis News! You are the only web site world wide, where fans can get EVERY new news and thats pretty fantastic! To get EVERY news, I have to log in here and thats enough, so I don´t have to look on several pages to get all of it and thats how it shoud be! thanks a lot!
