QuickPoll Result

July 31, 2004 | Other
Not surprisingly nearly 90% of our visitors that voted (635) thinks the answer to "Is July 5 rightfully claimed to be the birth of Rock'n'Roll?" is positive.

The new quickpoll: do you agree with the statement "The sales of the new DVDs are disappointing".

I think all the Elvis fans around the world should give themselves a big pat on the back. Its us fans who seem to be doing all the advertising and promoting these releases, spreading information word of mouth. You have to say, excluding the USA, the promotion has been abysmal once more, even the 50th Anniversary was a bit of an anti climax. So yes, these are good sales considering all the above, but my god it should be so much more.

Paul from France doesn't seem to realise that the '68 Comeback & Aloha hit No.s 2 & 3 on the French DVD charts ! Some failure !

I'm lost... is that question been taken out of nowhere or is it because some Elvis-related executive has said that the DVD sales are disappointing?

Disappointing - compared to what? how can anyone say its disappointing when the disks are on top-5 sales charts almost all over the civilized parts of world (and that excludes France. j/k ;-)?

I don't know what to think... They are doing little promoting for these gems. However, FYE and Circuit city sold out twice with the Aloha DVD.... Properly promoted the Aloha would sell at least a million in the USA.. The new sound and picture up-grade is sensational, especially if you see Aloha on a flat screen with surround sound. If people don't know about it, what do you expect. To answer the question, I think the sales are very good consideering no Promotion... Don't you?

i think these dvd's are selling quite well despite the fact that there is no publicity, probably as per usual as the sales decline then there will be some publicity, too little and too late.

paulfromfrance,i agree with you totally...i believe they have over exaggerated the sales of these 2 dvd's so they can get us the true fans to buy them both for sure...maybe i'm wrong, but that's just my opinion...without any promo at all, seems a little fishy to me...they were suppose to promote, they had all the sponsers listed on the offical site...what happened to that?? think about it...

I think that these dvds have sold very well without much promotion. It would have been nice if they could have put more money into advertising these great dvd releases. When have they advertised Elvis big time anyway ? Never as far as i know. Theres not really much more material they can release of the king except Elvis on tour and they could not even be bothered to put more money to advertise Aloha from hawaii or the 68 special. If Nike had not have done the advert with Allc in 2002 there would have been no new fans at all.

When you think about it no singers are selling that well if you look at the sales figures. So i dont think its just Elvis. You can download so much from the internet people dont seem to be buying anything from the shops these days. I am from the uk and Aloha from hawaii and 68 special are doing very well over here.

I think this poll isn't very interesting because it's held on a elvis side, so only the fans have voted on this poll. This poll is more interesting to be held on a regular music side, so you have votes not only from Elvis fans. But I agree that july 5th is the beginning of the rock 'n roll. No doubt about it

The sales in France are really disappointing. In the small town I live (about 100 000 people), noone (I mean noone !) bought the DVDs displayed in the supermarkets or in a big store (FNAC) located downtown. Maybe this kind of items needs to be targeted to fans only, like the FTD label is. The general public is not interested in rehearsals, mistakes, and so on, even if it's fascinating for us. Of course, the lack of promotion doesn't help. It's a pity regarding these packages outstanding quality, but it's a fact, and Elvis fans must admit it: he doesn't sell well anymore. And it's sad.

Disappointing compared to what ? Well compared to almost everything. Those DVDs seem to be here to stay on the shelves. This is not the case of the Diana Krall DVD at the Paris Olympia. This is not the case of the Norah Jones one (in New-Orleans, I think, but not sure). What about the Led Zeppelin double DVD ? Every Beatles DVD is sold out in a few days. I don't talk about French DVDs marketed here only that sell much better. And so on... Again, I repeat that it makes me sad to say this, but it's a fact. And I take your "the disks are on top-5 sales charts almost all over the civilized parts of world" very carefully. To tell you the truth, I don't believe it. Ok, ok, maybe it's in France only, because everyone is in vacations here. If it can comfort you... ;-)

Colin, unfortunately, they are NOT in the charts. Only on the French Fan club web site.

These two concerts are regarded as milestones representing Elvis at his best, there was little or no TV/newspaper media or whatever covering this. Its not rocket science, this has resulted in lost sales, no doubt about it. That said, the sales are still good (mainly thanks to the fans) but sigh..it seems they just dont bother sometimes, shame, as the DVD's are simply out of this world.
