Q Magazine's 1001 Best Songs Ever

November 19, 2003 | Other
U2's 1991 track One has been named the greatest song ever recorded in a special edition of British music magazine Q's 1001 Best Songs Ever. Music experts placed the tune, which had only a brief and unremarkable spell in the charts, above high-ranking efforts by Elvis and The Beatles. U2 guitarist The Edge said: "When we named it, I always knew it would be number one at something." Elvis Presley's "In The Ghetto" is #5 on a list which contains a wide variety of songs and styles.

Top Ten:
1. One - U2
2. I Say A Little Prayer - Aretha Franklin
3. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
4. A Day In The Life - The Beatles
5. In The Ghetto - Elvis Presley
6. My Name Is - Eminem
7. Creep - Radiohead
8. Independent Women Part 1 - Destiny's Child
9. Live Forever - Oasis
10. River Deep Mountain High - Ike and Tina Turner

Wow, that's an incredibly lame list by just about anyone's standards- except the so-called "music experts!"

roustabout, I couldn't agree more! These kinds of lists are ridiculous. Nevertheless, I am always glad when Elvis is not forgotten and especially when he gets into a top ten or five. Incidentally, I only like three of these songs really--"Day in the Life," "Creep" and of course "In the Ghetto" Dumb list.
