Part of the legend of Elvis Presley was his gargantuan appetite for gift-giving. He gave Lincolns and Cadillacs to total strangers; jewelry and guns to girlfriends and even President Richard Nixon. He paid department stores to open late at night for private shopping sprees for his friends.
The Rick Weiss Humanitarian Awards Gala honors Priscilla Presley with the humanitarian award. His ex-wife and board chairwoman and president of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Priscilla Presley, thinks Elvis just had a big capacity for caring. And now, she is continuing his quest to make dreams come true.
Presley supports many charity organizations through Elvis Presley Enterprises, the company that markets Elvis products and manages his intellectual copyrights, among other functions. One of the charities is Presley Place, a Memphis shelter for battered and abused women. But the mission of the Dream Foundation struck a chord. Presley has been national ambassador for the Wish Foundation for more than three years.
