Great news ! I guess that makes Elvis even closer to G. Brooks as the US best seller solo artist ; doesn t it ?

Gold and platinum awards have nothing to do with Brooks. Brooks has sold more albums (not total records) in the US than Elvis. Brooks is miles behind in gold and platinum awards, as is everyone else. If you factor in Elvis US single sales, Brooks is way behind there as well.

Elvis is still BIG BIG BIG. We are living in a world that people don't buy cds anymore but Elvis' albums are still selling like in the past. It's great and he will always be the King no matter what. Today's artists wish for at leats one album to be awarded gold, for sure.

If I remember well , last year Elvis was something like 6 millions below G Brooks in certified album sales. Those new certifications for 2010 should put Elvis closer to that official "record" for a solo artist in the US. Of course all the accounted for 'in between" album sales (+ that of the EPs & singles) put Elvis ahead of anybody else (Beatles included). Maybe Brian could clarify the data.

Steve B - I don't believe that Garth Brooks has sold more albums than Elvis in the States. He has more certified sales, but that's not he same thing. It has already been noted by many who have researched the subject that the majority of Elvis album sales are not certified. Ernst Jorgensen has in the past pointed out that there are some 400 uncertifed Elvis albums and there is also he question of heavy sales through 3rd part liscence agreements which are not certified either.
