Just heard a sample. Streisand is trying to show off with her voice, while Love Me Tender has that expression of a tender sentiment just beause it is so simple. Now this is a duet I won't be listening to anymore. The high pitching show-off is not justified by the original tenderness, to me mind you.

my sister requested this song at her funeral a few years ago. We played it as we carried her coffin into the church. Its not boring, its a beautiful song.

I reckon Chuck D, him from Public Enemy who most Elvis people consider a racist, but he's not really, should remix an Elvis track. Perhaps, "too much monkey business" or "clean up your own backyard" songs where Elvis' rapper sensibilities came to the fore. I reckon it could build bridges and sell big time, after all Elvis hailed from Shakerag and the projects in Memphis.

Dylan said that Liam Clancy was one of the best ballad singers ever, up there with Barbera Steisand, " or sumting like dat" I agree the 68 version of Love me Tender is sublime in its beauty and tenderness. Remember this was goodbye to the past, new direction time. The movie broke millions of hearts, especially the closing scene. American gothic and as some person once correctly pointed out, it was the only movie that ever captured Elvis' 56 stage style. Martin Sheen said it was a consolation for the nation who were traumatised by Dean's early demise. Love me Tender was a real consolation. High praise indeed and we'll deserved.

Love Me Tender boring? I don't agree. Gorse's comment however makes sense. Anyway that is a matter of taste.
Streisand? Well, if it contributes to the Elvis Legacy, that's fine with me, though I think Love Me Tender does not need any more exposure :) Maybe she needs it.

It's not boring, it has just probably been heard too many times by us fans. It has a unique atmosphere that echoes a certain poignant time in popular musical history. Better than ' Loving You' but not as good as 'Don't ' it is a track I still enjoy whether it be Ed Sullivan or the 1968 special. Barbara Streisand is an accomplished singer, who does little for me but it all helps to preserve and prolong the legacy.

OK, I am not a huge Streisand fan, but she is nowhere near the most boring singer female singer (The Way We Were is a damned beautiful song and she sings it flawlessly). Maybe you're thinking of Celine Dione?
I will agree, however, that Love Me Tender--the 1956 studio version--is one of Elvis' most boring songs. The version in 1968 is his very best version. In concerts after, even Elvis is clearly bored with the song and uses it as background music for kissing women.
Even the version from Ed Sullivan is better than the studio version. It's just a bit flat. "In My Way" and "Forget Me Never" and the solo "Lonely Man" are much much better examples of how amazing Elvis sounded with only an acoustic guitar.

The album is already poised to become a big hit in the U.S.A. Personally, I would have preferred something more challenging such as 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'.
