Paul McCartney Does Elvis

December 18, 2005 | People
It’s no secret that former Beatle Paul McCartney is a huge Elvis fan. During a concert for the BBC in the Abbey Road Studio’s, Paul brought a special surprise with him. He imagined that Elvis was there, standing next to him. When Paul did “Heartbreak Hotel”, he introduced the “Elvis Presley Bass”: the original stand up bass of Bill Black, which is now his. Macca closed the Elvis part of the show with his version of “Blue Suede Shoes”.

Paul is a genuine Elvis fan who ranked "Heartbreak Hotel" as the best song ever in Rolling Stone magazine. He truly loves and understands the phenomenal quality about Elvis. On a question from CNN Larry King on what he listens to today..-Paul simply responded "Elvis", to a suprised Larry who thought the answer would be an artist alive in 2005. He wouldn´t have made a double Elvis album with artists such as Bruce Springsteen if he didn´t. I can also promise you from a personal experience that I had a couple of years ago, when I had the chance to meet and speake to Paul myself, that on the subject of Elvis.. I suddenly felt like I was talking to a 10 year old boy who still has the same hero. Just like the rest of us!

On the superb "The Last Temptation of Elvis" tribute double discs CD album, Paul Mc Cartney sang his nice version of IT'S NOW OR NEVER and Bruce Springsteen sang a terrific version of VIVA LAS VEGAS. Both are real fans alright!

I can tell you all that... I'm a huge Elvis fan, but also a big Beatles fan and I can tell you some facts about Elvis Presley's affect on the Beatles in the early days. Paul used to perform "That's allright" and "Heartbreak hotel" in the early days of Beatles.. And he did it the same way Elvis does it... John Lennon used to do "I'm gonna sit right down and cry over you" The Beatles were mad Elvis fans...And if you listen to Paul Mccartneys album "Run devil run" you can hear him doing "all shook up" and "I got stung" If you listen to paul mccartneys unplugged album you can hear him doing "Good rockin' tonight" and "Blue moon of Kentucky". And on his Russian album he's doing "Lawdy miss clawdy","that's all right" and "just because" so there's no doubt that he simply loves Elvis.... John Lennon is quoted saying "without Elvis there wouldn't have been the Beatles" The beatles met Elvis in 1965 and it was a dream come true for all of them...
