The original source tape is damaged.
We have chosen to keep track 6 & 7 on this release for historical reasons in spite of the damage.
However “Hound Dog”, performed between “Hurt” and “Unchained Melody” was
beyond any element of repair and has consequently been left out.

Great news BUT surely FTD are done with 1976 for while now!!
whetherman wrote on April 12, 2010
Date for High Sierra should be May 1974, not 1976.
benny scott wrote on April 12, 2010
Probably typo by ElvisNews. No harm done, can be corrected in a wink. Always El.
KTemple wrote on April 12, 2010
Hopefully, FTD can give 1976 a holiday for a year or so with these 2 famous concerts being released. Probably would have been better to put the show from 28th Dec on disc one and the 29th Dec on disc 2!

i say release every 1976 show; i love them all, that was the year i was born and i especially want to see a release of the July 4, 1976 Tulsa show! that is of course if the soundboards exist anymore for them!
Lex wrote on April 12, 2010
It was a copy paste error by ElvisNews :-), funny is that the image of the cover says "1976" (on ShopElvis.eu you can find a larger image). So the mistake is understandable...

This was a very good sesaon in Lake Tahoe for Elvis. There have been three "import" releases from this stint in Tahoe and Elvis is in fine voice and is very focused throughout each of those. This show is earlier than any of those releases and should show a well-rested and relaxed Elvis enjoying himself on stage. Did I really read 8-page booklet ? lol I'm looking forward to this one.
benny scott wrote on April 12, 2010
Yep Lex , you're right ! There is even no date mentioned, just "May 1976". Hope the final printing of the cover will be correct . Always El.

Good news!!! I always liked the Lake Tahoe shows.
Ciscoking wrote on April 12, 2010
These Tahoe shows were just strong..great release. Just logical that FTD releases these 76 shows. they are way too good to be skipped. however, I would rather have seen Wichita and Atlanta. anyway you can`t have it all. it`s o.k..

I welcome these releases but I just wish that Elvis had stopped singingn the same songs at every show. It would have been refreshing to hear him do "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck' or "Girls, Girls Girls" live or "It Feels So Right" live or anything but the same old songs. I love collecting every show he did that was recorded, byut good grief, I wish the guy had shuffled the song arrangements & kept the shows fresh & different. If nothing else, It would have been great if he sang every song from Golden Records Volumes 2, 3 & 4. Anyway, what's done is done & what we have is the same same songs recorded live for the umpteenth time. Glad to see these released despite the SANE tired lineup of songs.

Looking forward to High Sierra. Nice to get a Tahoe show from a good performance year. :)

These are ok,but how about Hampton roads from On Tour next? Its time ernst its time! Or better yet, how about Hampton roads and richmond in a set?

Mmm an unreleased soundboard from an early Tahoe may 74 show ? Great choice Ernst & co! Elvis in fresh and great shape. I have the other shows from this Tahoe stint and these shows are really powerful. I will certainly buy this new FTD release.

I'm home from work now and so I decided to visit the Elvis CD collection to give some further details on what's already been released from this season in Tahoe. Threre was three releases from Ft. Baxter from this stint: May 24th on the "import" Spanish Eyes; May 25th on ...And the King for Dessert; and lastly May 27th on Last Tango In Tahoe. All three are quite enjoyable with a few songs on each that was not on the other show. This one by FTD should be a winner as should the Birmingham/Dallas set for those who don't have the imports. May should be a great month for releases. Thanks Ernst for this set of releases.

Well at least the covers are decent looking! Wouldn't be able to tell the music content of this one from anyone of probably 15 others but some of the fans just eat these up!
Tony C wrote on April 13, 2010
It is a shame about the tape damage on the Dallas show, but I would rather have an incomplete recording than it remain unreleased. I would imagine the damage at the start and end of the show are on the same section of tape, if both sides of the cassette was used. Will be pleased to hear more 1974 Lake Tahoe recordings, they were good shows.

Elvis Matters has a pic of the correct cover for High Sierra
Dazman wrote on April 13, 2010
Great to see some top-notch SB material coming up. With only "Dixieland Rocks" in FTD's Top 40, their catalogue sure needs it. Re HS, I would've titled it "High Sierra Fever". Good to se we'll get another unreleased SB version of "The First Time..." I never knew that Elvis did "HGTA" or more than one performance of "Spanish Eyes" during this L/T engagement which makes this release all the more collectible. I would've titled the 2CD set "Hot December Nights" but "Showtime" sounds suitable enough. The white cover of this looks really flashy which should reflect its content. I just hope that the tape damage on the Dallas CD doesn't ruin the listening pleasure of "Mountain or "Jailhouse" because these versions sound hot!
Dazman wrote on April 13, 2010
Oh! and re the RCA logo, I'm all for it. Afterall these are officially legal releases let's make 'em look that way. It also gives it a bit of history as well. Tuck the FTD logo in one of the corners of the front cover.

We have Hound Dog on the complete AR from the Dallas show which also exists out there....but it`s a throw away version...
Steve V wrote on April 13, 2010
Hound Dog - a throw away version? No, really? You cant be serious!
theoldscudder wrote on April 13, 2010
Ciscoking When didn't throw Hound Dog during these 70's performances? All the versions I've heard are short, rushed, with dropped, mumbled or slurred words.
mature_elvis_fan75 wrote on April 14, 2010
theoldscudder & steve you arent fans ,all those 70's versions were nothing short of masterful! (haha)
Ciscoking wrote on April 14, 2010
You are right, of course...sorry..lol...
Ton Bruins wrote on April 17, 2010
The only thing I can say is that I am very curious about the sound from the Birmingham/Dallas show...I am not so interested in the Lake Tahoe 1974 show..
blackdiamond wrote on April 17, 2010
These releases are a nice welcome! Especially if you had missed the 'import' releases. Good job FTD Team!

Just what I need. More mid '70s versions of the same old, tired songs in glorious sound board quality. NOT!

Does anyone know if CD1 Birmingham is mono, unlike the Audionics High Voltage?
