New Elvis Photos Found In Graceland Archives

February 17, 2006 | Other
An envelope of negatives was recently discovered by archivists working at the Graceland archives. This photo, from one of those negatives, features Elvis as he waits to complete his paperwork before boarding a bus with twelve other recruits. Other photos, all taken on the day Elvis was inducted into the army, on March 24, 1958, feature Elvis having breakfast, signing autographs, and more. These photos have probably not been seen since they were given to Vernon Presley, Elvis's father, and he filed them away many years ago. Because of the large number of documents, contracts, letters and other materials, that are in the Graceland collection, there is an ongoing project to scan and artifact everything in the collection.

As you all know, it's a long time tradition of EPE to release annually at least one coffee-table book filled with some of the 30.000 photos they bought from the Colonel for us fans. So, when we have the 30.000 Parker photos within the next 3 or 4 years, these newly discovered photos will be very interesting. (P.S.: I hope these pix will begin to decay in their archives just as the other ones do).

The photo's of this nature are classic's....in the NY Newspapers called E"s hair cut at the time a "sportsman" it was also known as a "Detroit" but what ever it was it was COOL. best part about it all was i lived it all....played hooky from school to go to the Brooklyn Army Terminal....and 4 years later also sailed to Germany on the uss Randel

August 1969, Bellflower, California, I met one of Elvis' sargents when Elvis was in Germany. Danny Burnette gave me 2 B/W Army photos of Elvis getting out of the services and the article from the Life magazine where Priscilla is riding in the car with Elvis on the way to the airport. I have been offered lots of money for these pictures, but they are not for sale or print. Just like EPE wanted to know if they could buy the picture of Elvis and I. First of all, I don't support EPE, or Priscilla Presley. I have a picture of Priscilla and Mike Stone at the house on Monovale, August 1973. Elvis was in Las Vegas.

Oh Yea...these are the real thing alright. I can remember seeing pictures of Elvis in Newspapers wearing this spsort coat when he was inducted and other pictures taken with his parents the day they said goodbyewhen he left for the Army. Such a find! I am from the Detroit area and old enough to also remember boys wearing their hair the way Elvis did and a few even wore their hair this way before Elvis! The truth is that it wasn't "cool" before Elvis.
