New Comeback And Aloha DVD's Delayed

August 18, 2003 | Video
On the FECC messageboard the Jordan Richie did a review on the showing of the new Comeback Special and Aloha shows. The new releases will contain a lot of new and interesting footage like "If I Can Dream" from the '68 stand-up show and 15 minutes of Elvis arriving at Hawaii in 1973. You can read more about it on the messageboard.

Todd Morgan spoke to the audience and told them that they are still working hard on the editing of the DVD's. And that the most probable release date won't be until "the beggining of the new year".

I rather prefer a delay than no release at all. As long s they can delay it all, the more time they have to maybe get the rights for the sound of johnny b. goode on the aloha dvd. it is probably that there will be no sound on that song, so you should use your cd to have sound.

I am so "Excited" about the New versions of the "68 Comeback special" and the "1973 Aloha Special".. but I am disappointed with another Elvis Project, delay. This seems to happen alot! They should post a "Release date" and stick to the schedule.

I don't think us Elvis fans, are really complaining! And we are, very "Thankful" to EPE, RCA-BMG and others. for their hard work and of course, time and effort, in Releasing new Elvis projects. It's just, when you set a "release date".. Try and stick with it! And if you promise "Extra footage" then include it and not change your mind ! (Like Warners did with Elvis-That's the way it is)

You're kidding me it won't be out until early next year? This is absolutely stupid. They've had more than a year to bring out these "new" versions of the '68 and '73 specials. EPE have kept delaying these more and more. A full year ago I read about the new releases, and now a year down the line they still aren't ready and won't be for a good time yet. I'm sorry, but it should not take this long to do anything on them. Look at Terminator 3 for example - been at the cinema a week or two, and it will be on DVD with loads of extra footage and features come December time! Yes I want to see all available footage such as having the audio on Johnny B Goode instead of having to insert a CD - how poor would that be? But waiting a year and a half for when they'll be out is a joke. I hope the wait will be certinaly worth it, and I mean worth it! Every second of footage available for both shows, a documentary like the one on Elvis: TTWII special edition, photo gallery, interviews maybe, and anything else they can throw in that will make me fork out yet more money. I mean I'm going to buy the Aloha show just so I can see Elvis land in a helicopter and greet some fans!

They said they would be out for the anniversary of both shows, the 30th for the Aloha and 35th for comeback special. However, let's say it's January when Aloha comes out, it will be exactly 31 years since Elvis performed it. So much for the 30th anniversary then! Hopefully with this "extra" time, they will make them perfect, no missing footage, no silly errors in the DVD booklet they might include (it's very annoying when you spot spelling mistakes in the booklets or say the back of the DVD). I really hope there is footage of Elvis backstage on the Aloha how - I mean, they can't of just started filming as soon as Elvis comes out of the side onto the stage, could they? Hope not! Same for when he runs off at the end, surely there was a camera or two behind the scenes trying to get a shot of him? I hope the press conferences are on too, as I've never seen them, I believe he gave two short ones about the Aloha show. I wish EPE would release some news on them, like some of the features that will be included. I am very interested in these new planned camera angles they've mentioned. whether they'll do it is another thing entirely.

I have been reading comments here for a couple of years now. I've never said anything. Sometimes, I'm embarrased for Elvis that we call ourselves his fans. I have known since the success of Elv1s 30 #1's that they were serious about treating Elvis right. I made a comment to a 17 year old friend the other day, who is becoming an Elvis fan more and more, "that current music must be in a very bad state for a rehashed greatest hits album to sell 9 million copies." He said, "I think that you are wrong." He said, "I like a lot of todays music. Elvis is selling again because he was the best and his music is showing it. If he was alive there is a very good chance that no one would care anymore." You know out of the mouths of babes. Anyhow, I wish that the people who do all the complaing around here would give some credit to the people who currently are showing tremendous respect not only to the man but to the music. I loved Elvis as much as anybody. He's dead. But the music isn't. Give them the chance they deserve. Personally, my first reaction regarding The Aloha and Comeback Concerts was the delay will make it better. If money were the only object here there would be no care going into the product they would just paste the word "new" on it and throw it at us like reconstituted breakfast cereals. Which was modus operande for a long time. They are not doing that anymore. And, That's the way it is!

The delay won't matter if the DVDs are both treated with the care they deserve. I have a video of both stand-up and sit-down shows from the 68 Special, and unfortuantely, for some reason Elvis lip-synchs during "If I Can Dream." But what is a standout is the when Elvis plays electric guitar during "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Baby What You Want Me to Do", Blue Seude is really driving hard with El growling "keep it goin' man....." What I do want to see on the discs are the press conferences and advertising materials including any TV and radio ads..and hopefully behind the scenes footage/more helicopter footage and maybe footage, if available from the "third sit-down/rehearsal."
