TV Rating:

CBS, on pace to win the May sweep in adults 25-54 and total viewers, is keeping the pressure on Fox in the key 18-49 demographics as well The Eye had it over an improved NBC on Thursday and then scored a rare Friday triumph thanks to an Elvis Presley special.

CBS, which didn't do much with its two-part Elvis Presley biopicbiopic last week, was solid Friday with two-hour special "Elvis by the Presleys" (prelim 3.0/10 in 18-49, 11.6 million). It combined with a winning performance at 10 from the season finale of "Numbers" (3.4/11 in 18-49, 11.2 million) to give CBS every hour for the night in 18-49, 25-54 and total viewers.

This means that "Elvis By The Presleys" scored well among the key 18-49 demographics. The irony is the Elvis mini serie was first aimed at the "potentially new Elvis fans" and they poorly watched it. On the opposite EBTP was aimed more principally at old fans and what happened; the younger demographics enjoyed it as well.

I didn't rate either the CBS mini series or Elvis By The Presleys. The acting was at best average and the "If I Can Dream" sequence was terrible. Randy Quaid playing the Col. was easily the best performance and using Elvis'actual voice during the singing probably saved the show. Elvis By The Presleys was mainly Priscilla talking to her Mom and Dad and giving us little to no new information. Again we are subjected to sensationalism in both shows.
