The Society of American Travel Writers has proclaimed Memphis North America's 6th best live music city, just behind a Top 5 of:
- New Orleans
- New York
- Austin
- Nashville
- Chicago
I am surprised it came in as 6th but I guess I am partial to Memphis. I try to get there 3 - 4 times a year & I just love it. All of my favorite cities ooze out the greatest music - Memphis, New Orleans, Chicago & Nashville. I just wish I was wealthy enough to divide my time between them. That's just a fantasy but the reality is that we are blessed with such wonderful cities that thrive on their culture & music.
What happened to Amarillo?..
A great music city yes, but was also voted one of the worst cities in America. It is run down and crime ridden A pity.
Yes, it may be crime ridden & parts of the city may be run down but so are a lot of cities today. I happen to come from a city that is only 1/3 the size of Memphis that is crime ridden & run down. And not known for music although we are trying desperately to offer that as an incentive for growth. I have traveled enough over the years to know that cities go through cycles (i.e., New Orleans, New York) but not all of them have that wonderful musical heritage that makes them so appealing.
