Last EPE Christmas CD?

January 01, 2004 | Music
Patsy Andersen wrote the following in an EPE-fanclub newsletter:

"I am very sad that we have been notified that two of the Christmas CDs that we made especially for the fan club presidents, are for sale(already) on e-bay. They haven't been out a week yet and already the appreciation for them is in monetary value. There is a lot of work and stress involved in the production of our gift to you, and to know that some see only 'money' in this gift is very disappointing.

Naturally, after they are received, they are yours. I know Ms. Manners says that recycling gifts is a no-no; I wondered what she would think of selling them. And the sad thing is that we know who the sellers are. Oh well, we may have to re-think the CDs for next year. It is sad that the actions of a few can effect so many."

Although it looks a bit naive on first sight, I understand Patsy Andersen. For a lot of so called "fans" money making comes in the first place. If I was EPE I would ignore it and be happy that Elvis still has so many good fans (and collectors), giving the money makers their market.

These should never have been limited to Fan Club presidents! They obviously don't appreciate them! Make them available to all at cost price.

Patsy, I can assure you that if the members of the Collectors Club received a special edition you would not see it for sale on ebay. So think about it, we appreciate Elvis.

I think EPE should not do any future fan club cds for a fan club if they sell the cd for profit. Why make all the fan clubs suffer. Only punish the ones that sell the cds. Maybe any fanclub that sells any fanclub cds for profit should be forever banned from the elvis world, espicially the sellers who should never be afforded the invitation into another elvis fan club.

I sincerely hope that EPE quits making the "fan club president" CDs. I know for a fact that some fan clubs consist of exactly one member and exist primarily to get these limited edition CDs. As for selling them on eBay. I think eBay will terminate any auction of promotional "not for sale" materials upon the asking by the holder of the rights. Last year and this year eBay, at the request of BMG, terminated auctions of promos for "Today, Tomorrow & Forever" and "Close Up." After a few months, the promos reappeared on eBay (apparently after the promotional period was over). The Elvis' Collector's Club sold a limited package of the Christmas CDs and some other items a few months ago to members -- my recollection is the price was $400.

I think it's a good decision to quit with these so called "fanclub cd's" because most of the fans are paying way too much for those CD's. Greetz Geert

I'm sure Jesse's answer would be 'Waaugh' as that's all he would have to say but seriously.... I agree with Patsy, far too many 'so called' fans are in it for the $$$$$$A very sad situation but look on the bright side, having no more makes them even more collectable, yes?
