Las Vegas Happening

April 06, 2013 | Music

The new Rock Legends label will soon release a double soundboard CD. The Elvis Presley Show was a HAPPENING and first Spring appearance in Sin City since 1956 was no different. The 50s gig was definitely way above in terms of performance, but nonetheless a flop at the time. Wrong place, wrong moment! But by 1969 Elvis returned and established himself as the King Of Vegas.
March 1975 wasn't a flop although he had health problems, but he still was in an excellent mood and with new studio material recorded about a week before. He was away from Las Vegas since Sept 1974, but he opened this Season with some of his new songs; And I Love You So, Green Green Grass Of Home and Fairytale. T-R-O-U-B-L-E would wait up to his next tour before entering his song list as a regular number, whilst the odd Shake A Hand and Pieces Of My Life were performed a bit later during the July 1975 tour.
The first CD features the nearly complete pre-show (no Elvis), and on the second CD the March 22, 1975 Midnight performance along with some bonus tracks recorded three nights earlier.
The March 22, 1975 MS has been released twice but our source is definitely from an earlier generation. The very short Joe Orchestra introduction before the Also Sprach Zarathustra is not on the aforementioned releases and presence of vocal distortion in Elvis' vocal is rather smooth and less annoying than it was before.
This new digipack double set will be a very LIMITED EDITION and first intended for the fans who didn't have these recordings, or all the ones wanting the COMPLETE HAPPENING.

Elvis was doing some great material in 1975. I'm sure, that, this is a real good show. Love the cover art. No one looked better, than Elvis, standing behind, a microphone stand, tilted back, with a guitair strapped over his shoulder.

Already got this show in good sound on Back With A Bang. Why buy it again? Just to get another CD that doesn't feature Elvis? I think not!

I think that some of the old bootleg releases deserve to be re-released. But this one we have already on A Profile volume 2, disc 4 AND Back With a Bang. Should the "opening act" be enough for fans to buy this release?

When you have Back With A Bang...which has been rleased not soo long ago and which was a fine upgrade.. you don`t need this one..it is of interest of course for newbies...

Who cares for the pre-show? To me it is worthless. Also, as already mentioned this concert was released recently and post probably just copied. Why not search for other concerts not (recently) released. Waste.

The soundboard bonus tracks are overlooked here, they are unreleased. The sound of the main show is better than on the Profile box. The pre show is quite interesting, too. All in all not a bad release.

Why is the pre-show interesting..?..lol.. I have a feeling that the bonus tracks stem from A Legendary Performer Vol. 5 and 7..just a feeling.. ..but I am glad to be proven wrong..

It's funny to read on several elvis sites the fact that when back with a bang was released, fans who had the profile box were complaining about another re- release. Now that this vegas happening cd is released fans who have the back with a bang cd are complaining about this re- re release. But this time the bootleggers of a bootleg are adding some extra stuff. So I'm positive about this release.

To each his own. I think that whomever is happy with this release should be, whether it be a former release or not (there's nothing new Elvis wise anyway). As for me, the barrage of Elvis product has taken all the fun out of collecting. I used to look forward to the next release, now I wonder when enough became too much. I used to enjoy the hunt for rare imports, and counted myself lucky when I found one. Now, I can find them as easily as I can pick an apple from a tree. Ironically, the release I have enjoyed most in the last year is the Aloha rehearsal show on the Legacy Edition. I am more excited about the new Boz Scaggs album than I have been about the last ten Elvis import CDs.

Tracey Jayne : If the bonus sb tracks turn out to be unreleased I will get it for sure. No interest in pre show programs, tough.... for obvious reasons..

No problem....thank you...;-)

Absolutely with you Lefty. With the Files Vol. 1 book, the FTD books, FTD CDs and a new bootleg every week Elvis collecting ain't fun anymore. And this is only a small portion of the announced stuff. Two more Tunzi books here, a gigantic Aloha book there, a He Didn't Come Back DVD-book one day, a "Complete On Tour Outtakes DVD the next day. The list goes on and on. With 200 Euros every month you are in an average league. I wonder how many fans can affort this. And right they they swamp everything with countless re-releases. Snowbird, Happening, College Park and useless 3 CD boxes (Snoopin Round My Door or Flash Blood And Bones). Cashing in for nothing. Just pushing a few PC buttons. Somebody is getting very rich with this old stuff. And we, the fans, are loosing the fun that was 'collecting Elvis'. Boys it' enough. After 36 years I'm almost tired of working just to make some scoundrels happy.

I've listened to this one and i must admit, the sound on the "Las Vegas Happening" release is much better than the old releases on A Profile boxset and Back With A Bang. Don't know how they did it, but i'd stick with this one if you don't have the old cd's. It sounds more "fresh" than the old ones, as the old ones sound "muffled". Good job Rock Legends (is this a resurrection of the old bootleg label?)
