James Burton Statue To Be Unveiled

As part of the festiveties of the James Burton International Guitar Festival in Shreveport, La., from August 19th to21 st. a statue of James Burton will be unveiled at Municipal Auditorium at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The same showroom, where Elvis performed his weekly Hayride shows now 50 years ago – at the Elvis Presley Boulevard

Burton of Shreveport was Elvis Presley's longtime guitar player, as well as Ricky Nelson, John Denver and Emmylou Harris. The festival is raising money for his foundation to provide musical scholarships and instruments to children and young adults.

The James Burton and Friends Concert is Saturday, Aug. 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at historic Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, La. Tickets are $50 and up. Others performing include Steve Wariner, Jeff Cook of Alabama, Dr. John, Johnny A, the Nelson Twins, Johnny Rivers, Seymour Duncan, Sonny Landreth, Steve Lukather (Toto), Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan), Doyle Dykes, Johnny Halide, Eric Johnson, Greg Koch, Jerry Donahue, Roscoe Beck, Steven Cropper, and Steven Seagal-tentatively.
