Jailhouse Rock In Best Movies List

February 20, 2009 | Video

A leading movie magazine, Empire, had a list of 500 best movies voted by 10,000 readers, "150 of Hollywood's finest" and 50 key film critics. Elvis' "Jailhouse Rock" was 495th with the note that "Elvis plays up to his rock 'n' roll bad-boy image as a former lag who gets into the music biz, becomes famous and grows a hell of an ego. Featuring a bunch of classic tunes, it's The King's best movie."

Does this mean that JR is offically Elvis's best movie? I'm happy enough with that.

I'm certainly not going to argue with this. My personal favorite was King Creole, but I loved JHR just as much.

It's not very insightful journalism is it? It's more like a very vague synopsis. I bet you a million dollars the writer hasn't seen 'King Creole' (or 'Follow That Dream' for that matter).

It's an excellent synopsis of the 'message' of the film and its enduring image. JR is the Elvis film that had probably the most impact on his career and personal image. King Creole, Flaming Star and Wild In The Country each have great merit but his finest characterisation was as Toby, in Follow That Dream.

I think Loving You & King Creole are better, but then JR is great as well, not forgetting LMT then the rest follow, but forgetting some deliberatley.

King Creole was his best movie by far as far as acting, story, cast, & director. But JR is probably the ultimate rock and roll and 50's icon movie, so I have no issue with it being listed here.

King Créole is Elvis finest no doubt about it.
