Jailhouse Rock Colorized Edition DVD

February 04, 2005 | Video
Supposedly the colorized version of "Jailhouse Rock" which was already available on VCD in Malaysia is available on DVD now (produced under license). This release should contain a bonus audio CD of the "Jailhouse Rock Studio Sessions".

The disc should be a printed picture disc, with chapter menus, 4:3 version screen, LPCM sound, NTSC and is region code free.

Poorboy - Haven't heard of King Creole ever having a colour version done. And the Love Me Tender that I've got is pretty dire.

George Klien (G.K.) has said that King Creole was shot in color and black and white at the same time but the color version is setting in the vaults never before released. I heard him mention this on his Elvis show on Elvis radio on Sirius. It would be great if the studios would edit and produce this version. We need to write in and demand it released.

elvis_77 - Do you believe George ?

The Colour version of LOVE ME TENDER that I have is brilliant in quality. The new colourized JAILHOUSE ROCK DVD is taken from the Laser Disc. Excellent.

I don't like the idea of colorizing any of the three b/w films Elvis made. That's the way they were filmed and that's what the director wanted. And that's that. Computer-colorizing these three films would be similar to those awful seventies enhanced stereo versions of all mono tracks. They sounded horrible, didn't they? If on the other hand what elvis_77 heard from G.K. is true (this is a first time for me and personally I doubt it) then I wouldn't mind having a color version of King Creole.

With all due respect to George Klein, I cannot believe what he says about a colour version of "King Creole" being in existence. Film is very expensive and companies do as much to keep production costs to a minimum. If Paramount had filmed "King Creole" in colour, why was it not released that way? I know of a case of a film production being started in B/W then production was switched to colour which meant that what had already been shot was scrapped. This was the James Dean classic "East of Eden". As far as I know, "King Creole" has never been colourised either. I'm not sure I would like to see it in colour, B/W gives it a very moody quality which relates to the drama of the storyline. I enjoyed seeing the colourised versions of "Love Me Tender" and "Jailhouse Rock", but I only watched them once in this format. I always return to the original B/W versions each time I have watched them since.

Let's face it guys the colour version should hve been a bonus on the B/W dvd we have now, but that would be too much like value for money, by the way i bought jailhouse rock on video in 1981 i think and it cost me £39.00 in Glasgow, mind you my video cost £550.

I would like to have all three b/w movies from the 50's in colour. I have enjoyed the b/w DVD's that I have, still I would like to have them in colour, not least for the younger generation. The colour brings more life to it! A matter of opinion ofcourse!

I would love to see Jailhouse Rock in color. In fact I would like to see Love Me Tender and King Creole in color. Especially for the younger fans. I'm 16 but I don't mind black and white. Oh yeah I'm not like most teenagers. I'm ahead most teenagers. I have a mind of a 30 year old.
