The U.K. branch of Sony / BMG released the Canadian compilation "Introducing Elvis" 3 CD tin can box on September 17, 2007.

So now even Sony/BMG are jumping on the bandwagon and release only the "out-of-copyright" tracks. And 30 tracks on 3 CDs?! OMG, I could have fitted more on 1 CD! They sure know how to make a 100% profit.

These CD's are shorter than old vinyl albums ! At least we got 12 songs on those !

I would just like to ask the question WHY? There can't be many fans that still try to collect everything that Sony/BMG put out, and even if there is a small number it's not going to make for many sales. So is this aimed at the young "casual record buying public"? Seems rather ill judged to me if it is as most young people now download almost all their music. Why would anyone want something that is difficult to store as I suspect it won't fit into most CD storage units, and why give such poor value? It's shown on amazon.co.uk as an Import for £20.49 with a release date of 17th December (although there are "used and new" already available from USA and Canada at £7.54!!). I can only assume they think that some poor unsuspecting soul might buy it as a stocking-filler. I thought Sony/BMG were "rationalising" their mainstream Elvis catalogue, and as all the material is out of copywright I'm assuming that means they don't even get any money for royalties, which surely makes this a totally bizarre unnecessary release.

This was released in Canada in August, it is still on the charts, and went as high as #2. It sells for only $10 Canadian, and it does serve a purpose, for anyone who does not have any Elvis cd's. They also released the 3 cd set in a tin can "The Holiday Collection" only in Canada and that is also selling very well. For $10, in a collectible tin can, why not??
